Default Wheel Lug Nuts

I have the 5 spoke chrome 19" wheels on my LS460. 4 lug nuts are the same 21 mm socket size. The 5th lug nut is larger and uses a 22 mm socket. They look like factory lug nuts, but there is no adapter for the larger one. Does anyone else have these?

I'll bet the previous owner had replaced one nut with an aftermarket one. Probably to replace locking lug nuts. Lexus OEM nuts are expensive.

I probably wasn't clear in that all 4 wheels have one lug nut that is larger than the others. So 16 lug nuts that take the 21 mm socket and 4 that take the 22 mm socket. That was why I thought is might have been some sort of factory wheel theft deterrent, although it is easily defeated by using a larger socket for the lug nut different from the rest.

Nope. The factory's theft deterrent wheel lug is a lug with special pattern that needs a special adaptor to remove it, which can still be removed and tightened by the same factory supplied 21mm wheel lug wrench in your car's trunk. In other words, you have 4 after-market lugs that need one 22mm socket to remove.

I have the same thing, it is annoying to use different sockets while taking off and putting on wheels. I couldn't find anything about it in the Lexus catalog. I tend to agree with @swfla. For instance, Dorman makes 22mm lug nuts that look like OEM.

It was clear to me. Maybe I wasn't clear. Here's what happened to me: I misplaced the "key" for the one factory locknut on each wheel. The tire shop got the locking nuts off with a "special" tool. I asked them to leave the one stud empty as I wanted to order my own 4 replacements. I discovered that finding a standard lug nut that matches Lexus nuts is impossible. Either you buy OEM, which are crazy expensive or you buy a nut that's close in appearance but a different size. Lexus has managed to create a lug nut that is unique and likely patented so no one can make an exact copy legally. Welcome to the world of high end cars where everything is more expensive and few aftermarket parts are available.

Just FYI I recently bought a set of OEM locking lug nuts and socket for $52. My original socket was getting worn so I just bought a white new set.

Just to be clear, my intent was to replace the locking nuts with standard nuts. Didn't want to go through the hassle of a lost "key" again. Preventing stolen wheels isn't a concern for me. This was over a year ago and prices and availability may be different now. The OP wanted to know why he had a different size nut on each wheel. I believe that's been answered by several members. What he decides to do next is another issue and is a personal preference.

Thank you for all the replies. It makes sense now that 4 lug nits were replaced with aftermarket ones. There is an entry in the Lexus website service history of the wheel lock key not in the vehicle.

Default Key Stored

I can't find the wheel lock key in my newly purchased 2019 LS 500. Do you know where they are typically stored?

Glove box, center console, trunk (with jack). Contact the seller and ask.
