Default Where to add engine coolant ?

2007 base 460 here, and my question is where do I add engine coolant

I see the plastic overflow container but is this the only place to put in more coolant when the level get low or is there a traditional metal cap elsewhere?

also, is it ok to use a little of my Honda coolant or do I absolutely have go buy Lexus 460 coolant?

thanks!

You fill coolant via the reservoir, remove the drain **** at the top of the rad to help get air out. Go to a Toyota dealer and buy coolant or at least get coolant that is equivalent. Honda coolant is for Honda's.

Be sure to buy the premixed coolant from Toyota if you're topping it off. Keep a close eye for a leak somewhere. You shouldn't need to add coolant unless there's a leak. Be sure to close the screw top on reservoir securely as this is a part of the pressurized system.

Below is what I have been running in my '07 the last few years. There's also a more cost effective concentrate available for those who may be refilling their system.

Yes, if you have air in the system, you can use that plug to purge the air.

Yes, you use the overflow coolant tank (the plastic reservoir) to add coolant to the system.

I do get heat into the interior but only when the rpm's are above like 1300 or so

does this mean I have air in the system and what exactly do I do with the plug on top of the radiator to remove air?

It seems you already have some air in the system.

Park your car on a leveled surface. Remove the purge plug, fill the reservoir with coolant to the MAX mark. Start the car and watch the level of the coolant as the engine is running. Do not allow coolant to get below the MIN mark. Add more coolant if necessary. Continue maintaining coolant level. When coolant starts coming out the purge plug, reinstall the plug. Make sure you do not over tighten/strip it! Let the engine run for 2-3 minutes. Loosen the plug without removing it, and see if there are any air bubbles. If there are, repeat the steps above. Bring the coolant level to the MAX mark by adding more coolant. Check the level after driving or/and next morning.

Fix your coolant leak as air will get in the system again!

Carefully inspect the radiator for leaks, low coolant means it went somewhere.

Drive car to reach operating temp. Leave car running, open hood and slowly open the plug until air comes out and a solid flow of coolant begins. If you don't feel comfortable dealing with scalding fluids, an independent mechanic can do it as well as inspecting for the leak that caused low fluid level.
