Default Ls460 2008 rwd overheated and blown engine

Hello Everyone, again my uncle has an LS460 08, last weekend he took a trip and seems like the serpentine belt fell off due a locked up belt tensioner/slide pulley.
Then pressure build up due to heat and blew radiator, then no coolant and finally burned engine. we are looking for an used engine and our concern is the difference between chassis 5th Digit. all the engines that we have found are for a car that 5th Vin digit is "L", his LS is "M" like some GX460. will the engine will work anyway and can comunicate with ECU?.

thanks in advance.

Bless.

I believe, engines with "L" 5th digit are 1URFSE while engines with "M" 5th digit are 1URFE. Difference in the type of injection makes the engines non-interchangeable as 1URFSE uses direct + port injection while 1URFE is just port.

Thank you Anfager, if i get an engine with the ecu for Direct Injection would it work?. 1UR-FSE is cheaper and availaible everywhere, but i could not find any 1UR-FE at decent price.

It might not work as wiring is most likely very different. Are you sure he has 1URFE? Those were sold only in Middle East according to the Internet. Can you take a picture of the engine with the top cover off?

The dealer should be able to tell you based on your VIN number....

Yeah take the cover off, I would be shocked if it's really a 1UR-FE and not an FSE

Yes you need to call a Dealer with the vin. That should not be the engine in the U.S.

If that's an FE engine and not an FSE, that car is an import from the middle eastern market, most likely Dubai, by way of Canada.

Any money you save by buying a non-matching engine will likely cost much more to make all the changes required to make everything work together. This is a very computer complex car with all computerized systems throughout needing to work in harmony. You're asking for major headaches.

Hello Again,we live in Dominican Republic. The VIN number is JTHBM46F505055660 this seems to be a middle east car for this region, the car is even in Km and not miles.
seems like GX460 engine would fit very well since the 5th digit is M as well. i friend of mine bough a 07 camry v6 and 2 weeks later the engine blew. seems like a bad repair just to sell the car.
swaped engine with an 15 highligher and the 5th VIN digit on the highlander was K same as camry was.

but i can not find any 1UR-FE In my country, we are still planning to repair old enigne but every plastic is melted, knock sensors. camshaft prosition sensor etc.

I can not post pictures of the engine w/Cover because it has been removed from the car. the cilinder head cover seems to have a bracket in the hole of the GDI pump. i will try to see every detailed difference between FE and FSE and see i i could just remove the GDI to make it work like a FE.

Yeah you do have a FE. Wow, didn't expect to see that.

In that case it's best you find a GX460 engine as it will match your car correctly. You can't convert an FSE since it works with "insanely" high compression ratio vs the FE. The DI system is what allows it to not kill itself at that CR on sub 105 octane fuel.

Thank you all guys for the orientation. this saturday i will go to the shop where the car is located and take some pics of the engine damage from the overheating event. the short block w/crankshaft and pistons seems to be ok. if i can not find any engine in my uncles budget, i think i could go the long way getting Valves, valves seat, knock sensors, timming kit etc.

seems like some tundras landcruiser and sequoias get these engines too.

sounds like you're doing what you can considering the limited resources that DR has.

Yeap Swfla, is the LS460 are very rare here and even more Middle east ones, we have found some imported from the united states and they can work here even with the very bad fuel.
thats why im still believing that maybe is possible to put an FSE (w/o High pressure pumps) reusing old valve covers even if it is higher compression ratio. FSE is way cheaper than FE dont know why.
