My car was installed with a remote start at Lexus 5 years ago. I never tried to use it on the car until today. It will start the car, but as soon as it does it locks the doors. I assume it does this so no one steals your car. I can walk up to the door/ hit unlock and it will open, but as soon as the door is opened, the car shuts its self off. It is a code alarm remote start.

My dealer-installed remote behaves the same way. I have gotten used to it.
I think that's a Japanese car thing, as I know that Lexus/Toyota and Subaru do it. American cars do not, and I don't even think that German cars offer it.
