I noticed in techstream there are two options for "erasing" smart access key codes. I lost one of my key fobs and want to erase all the key codes and program only the remaining key fobs I have left. There is a "smart code reset" and "smart code erasure" option. What's the difference between the two and what is the exact steps I need to perform when erasing all keys from my car? I want to make sure before attempting so I won't be stuck with an car I can't start.

I have a 2007 LS460.
I just did this recently when I thought my wife list her spare key which she later found. I purchased a new key online and with my remaining master key I erased ALL keys then added the new key. This reminds me that I have to add back the key that was later found. I used the erase key method. The test method is for when ALL keys are lost and the dealer needs to reprogram the ECU to accept a different key code.
I believe, "all keys lost" and "add a key" (used) require a passcode. If you try adding a new key, it will require a master key, I believe. By experimenting with adding keys, you should be able to figure which is the master key. I am not sure if it is an option for you.

Thanks, techstream will let me know which key is master?
I've added a number of keys using techstream but I have never erased any. I wasn't sure if "master key" was referring to the original key the car was shipped with? All of our cars were purchased used. I have no idea if the original key is one I own.
Or Is a master key ANY key that is currently programmed to the vehicle?

I believe, but I have no proof that If you tried to add a new key and you didn't use a master key, Techstream will rejection the new key you are trying to add. Please, correct me if I am wrong.

this is is what I am afraid of. If I do the smart access reset and not able to re-register my existing keys. I don’t want to strand my car.
In techstream, i notice there are two registration type (Classic and normal). One is original type and the other is LF type. Which is the difference between the two and which type would I need to use for registration?
Would resetting the smart code and reprogramming all remote also help range issues? I been having range issue as well even with fresh batteries installed on all remaining remotes
A master key is any key that will start the car, pop the truck and open the glove box. Not necessarily the key that the car shipped with. You HAVE to have a master key to even start the process so there's no chance that your key will be erased. It's all very simple but I feel your anxiety. Once you erase all keys then the key that you started the process with will become the only master key. From there you can just add the new key and that's it. It takes all of 10 minutes if that.
