Default Battle of the Flagships

Hello,

I have an odd question.
Control arms and all. Which of the following will make it to 200,000 with less spent on random repairs/ maintenance?
- 2007-2012 RWD V8 Lexus LS460 w/o air suspension package
- 2011-2013 RWD V6 Infiniti M37 w/o sport package
I know these two aren't quite in the same class but you can find them similarly priced.

Side Notes,
The GS 2006-2011 kind of falls behind these two in terms of tech, so I'd like to leave it out of this discussion.
Also, I think it's fairly obvious that Infiniti V8s have some significant issues @ higher mileage so I'd also like to exclude the M56.

Anyway just wanted to see if anyone had thoughts or insights?

Man, thats kind of like asking a Ford forum if a Chevy is more reliable, LOL

All I can say is that the Lexus will probably be more reliable but it will be a crapshoot no matter what

I know I know lol. I've just always been skeptical of Infiniti even though I've heard their naturally aspirated V6s are great. There are so few of them it's hard to find concrete info. The LS kind of went downhill with the 460 for a while too so it's a hard choice.

If you looks at the consumer reports reliability ratings, there's no comparison. Nissan/Infinity are far less reliable than Toyota/Lexus. The LS has a handful of known issues. The Infinities have several handfulls of less predictable issues.

the most important criteria you left out, is previous owners, maintenance and are of the country with road conditions.

all of that will contribute to the discussion..

That being said, the Infiniti will probably cost less to maintain to 200k excluding brake rotor issues that are prevalent to warping on infinitis

most important point is which is a better car, more desirable and provides a user experience on all levels intended based on its mission

A resounding Lexus LS460 by far night and day vehicle over the Infiniti

That is certainly a personal choice. I think either car will suit you fine.

The LS is a much better car, and is a class above. Having driven those Infinitis several times any addiitonal cost of maintaining an LS460 is worth it.

As far as least "spent on random repairs/ maintenance" I would say Lexus hands down.

One of my all time favorite cars was a 1995 Infiniti Q45a, excellent car and very reliable. I had that car for 14 years and about 180K miles, but it was done in by Northeast winter salt. I had it for 4 years after I bought my LS so I could keep it off the roads when there was salt down. That being said, I believe Infiniti has declined in reliability over the years.

I had a M45 and now a Q70 5.6 L AWD, both are extremely nice cars, not less reliable than LS 460, however they're on the "sport" side, meaning more noise and more bumpy ride, the interior design/quality of the Q70 is way above the LS in my opinion, The V8's are the one to be be had but they're not too many and not cheap, if you can find a AWD go and drive one, you may be pleasantly surprised, good luck !

I have only ever had the V6 offerings from Lexus which have treated me so well, they really do truly last forever. I'd love to treat myself with the LS460 but I know I'd regret it if I have to shell out $2,000+ every 6 months on repairs. I think it's more of a personal thing, will the LS experience outweigh the higher upkeep costs.

Sorry, but that's just nonsense. If you buy a 2013 or newer, you're highly likely not to have a single issue whatsoever.

I haven’t spent that much total on my 200k+ AWD LS in two and a half years and that includes the following work:
air suspension to coil spring conversion
new brake rotors and pads
new tires (top of the line Michelins)
oil changes, trans fluid exchanges, engine air filters, spark plugs..
disclaimer: I did everything except the tires myself

You'll see more unicorns on the street than owners who have spent $2000+ in repairs every six months. Not that it hasn't happened, but some people treat their cars like crap and ignore normal maintenance. That's an important factor to look at when buying any used car.
