Why didn't you change the transmission filter?

Do you know the correct way to flush the transmission fluid?

Goid job!

which lines went in and out of transmission? Driver/passenger side?

I went through the free online manual and I couldn't find a procedure for transmission flush. There are steps if you want to add fluid though.

I was wondering if it possible to disconnect both IN and OUT hoses from the radiator. Then place OUT in an empty 15 gallon bucket, next place IN in an full (fresh fluid) 15 gallon bucket and start the car. Allow the pump to flush the fluid and when there is around 2 quarts left of the fresh fluid, stop the engine. Connect both hoses back to the radiator. And use the filler hole to adjust the level in the transmission. Thoughts?

I hear what you’re saying. I’ve done everything from your method, pan drops, spill and fills...and using a good old transmission flushing machine. They all suck. All Toyota needed to do was put a damn dipstick in there and we’d be fine.

But wow, you had 215k mikes and maybe that was your first fluid change? These trannys are pretty durable, no doubt.

Talked to a guy at the local shop...he loves Toyota transmissions. Keeps most normal folk from doing it themselves.

Oh, and I’ve also overfilled and underfilled my LS460 transmission. Luckily it was much more forgiving to me than what the parts guy at the dealer told me. I drove around with it overfilled for almost 6 months (maybe 12,000 miles). Fluid was being pushed out last the pan gasket. Overfilled by maybe 1-1.5 quarts. Dodged a bullet with that one. And I drive around for two weeks once with it underfilled...maybe half a quart. That didn’t worry me as much as overfilling it be almost two damn quarts.

I have a Mityvac oil extractor and didn’t use it. Could it work? Maybe.. but it simply wasn’t what I had in mind for this job.
