Hi all,

It's been around a week with our new to us LS460 L, and holy cow what a machine this is.

Cutting straight to the point, it seems our car isn't equipped with the Auto Park feature, although we do have the sensors on the left/right sides of the front bumper.
I assumed these sensors are for the auto park feature, as it is the only way I identify Audi/VW cars having that feature by simply spotting those side sensors.

There is no mention of auto park in my "Navigation Owners Manual", they only show you how to maneuver the car, and selecting the parallel vs traditional parking method. Yet no mention of auto park and those arrows never pop up on the screen.

I was under the impression that all LS460 L's came with this standard. Especially since our car is fully loaded (rear tv, fridge, etc)

Am I missing anything? Cheers!

I can confirm that the feature was not standard.

I think that feature was only offered for one or two years. From what I've heard you're not missing anything--it was slow and and had to be lined up just right in order to work. Much faster to just parallel park it yourself.

Very true. I guess I just really wanted to geek out and try it

Lexus was the first automaker to offer auto park and this feature wasn't always easy to use like shown in those Lexus TV commercials but it was impressive and had everybody talking. Like one of the posters said "you're not missing anything".

Even when you mastered the wicked set up screens it would respond to
the slightest incline with an error message like "too steep". We were in
a parking lot with typical slope for rain/snow melt runoff!

I tried to use it a lot when I had my 2007 and trust me, it never really worked well. Well, I can't say it never worked but, you have to be in an exact angle and if it's on a little bit of a hill forget it...

After about a month, I never really touched it again, accept for a "look at this" thing when I had others in my car... I did never tried with parallel parking, so I can not say if that worked. According to the manual you need to be driving under 25mph just pass in front of the spot...

It was just too dam slow, and if you were not right, it never was able get it just right.... It was just so much quicker to park it on my own.

A real worthless feature but, neat when it worked...

Firstly, congrats on your new car and I wish you good luck with it.

The auto park you are referring to is was actually called "Advanced Parking Guidance". This came as part of a bundle of options that listed for $6345. However, it also required another option, Intuitive Parking Assist.. Since I had opted for this bundle, the Intuitive Parking Assist was a bargain at $500.

It was really just what I called a parlor trick. Everyone who rode with me wanted me to demonstrate how it worked. It really did work, but it was too slow to set up and then to actually park. The fastest I could parallel park the car was about 15 seconds. In Massachusetts that gave others a chance to drive into the space I wanted to park in. The other drawback was it would not operate if you pressed on the accelerator. This meant if you had to park in a space that was on an incline and the normal engine idle wouldn't propel the car, you were out of luck. Once in a geat while when I am bored, I'll use it to park in my driveway.

I am surprised if you bought a loaded car, that this was not included. I see you are in Beirut and possibly this was not offered for cars sent to your region.

Now I don’t feel so bad about my car not having this feature. Radar cruise would have been really nice though

Wow, I never knew that it was THAT finicky. Guess I'm not missing out on much

Many thanks! We absolutely love it. Can't believe that it's a 13 year old car.

Ah I see, I couldn't find the right name that Lexus gave it. My car definitely has the "Intuitive Park Assist" though.

Hahaha. People in Lebanon would steal your spot even if you're halfway in.

Also super interesting about the fact that it doesn't work with the accelerator pedal. This would have been a huge issue here as we have hills everywhere.

Our car is actually shipped from Dubai from the single owner. They are super common in the Gulf region, and super super rare in Lebanon. To my knowledge only a handful of LS's were sold here, and almost all of them were SWB models. No one shelled out for a fully loaded LWB, given our ridiculous taxes on new cars (near 50% of the cars value.)

An easter egg that I noticed, is that UAE/Gulf spec LS460's have a little vent under the front license plate. Check my attached photo above. USA spec LS 460's don't!

I had my 2007 SWB for more than 5 years before I realized it did have the auto parking feature. I got real excited and messed with it for a while and quickly decided it was way more trouble than it was worth messing with. I have also heard that the radar cruise doesn't work very well either, but no personal experience there.

It's OK if you are parking going down a hill. You just use the brake to slow your speed. The car will beep at you if you are going too fast.

Don't worry you are not missing anything. In fact now that I think of it, in all this time I have been on the forum I don't recall anyone saying they used it regularly.

Trust me, your not really. It's neat when it works but, with the features like backup camera and down tilting mirrors, it's so much faster just to do it yourself.

This was a feature I always wanted (Radar cruise). My 2014 has it. It also has its funky things. Like if your in traffic, even moderate traffic, you would never want to use it. I never really use it on the highway, UNLESS it's on a weekend where there is like no one on the highway. It leaves such a large gap that even in it's smallest setting (when you set your distance), that people will cut in front of you and then the car slams on the breaks. I did it a few times, never again.

I ONLY really use it when I am doing backroads like going 45-50 mph, it can slow down(and stop) for people who turning and SOMETIMES it will go back on it's own (very slowly), or it will just stop "Cruse not available", then you drive and reset...

So, it's not perfect, it was a dream feature mine and it works fairly well but, not the end it's not the all best thing in the world...

As I have as 2014, I don't know if it got better in the 2016 or 2017 (as they redesigned a lot of stuff on the car), I would love to hear their experience with it. Is it as bad I said on the newer cars ?
