hello gents I own a 2007 ls 460 w/ 127k on dash trouble free since 55k ...but .... over the last month or so i have noticed a rotational noise that initially thought was tires. Pretty new tires on the car , all balanced and no odd wear or bulges. Im getting a somewhat helicopter type rotational noise even more so when I turn into corners left or right and less when going straight .. Does this sound about right I have seen others mention the same symptoms just wanted to be sure I was on the right track with this one .. looking at timken bearings anyone have any experience with that brand ?
You can test the bearing by jacking the car so the wheel looses contact with the ground. Then rock the wheel while holding at 6 and 12 o'clock, and 3 and 9 o'clock. If there is play while holding 6 and 12 o'clock - wheel bearing, 3 and 9 o'clock - suspension or steering.
yes I tried that and no play what so ever but have also been told that they way the hub and bearings are on the LS you wont feel any play in them if they are bad
I see, I didn't know that. I have a vibration in the front left wheel at 20pmh+ and I can't figure out what causes it. If it is true what you are saying, it could be the wheel bearing. I just want to make sure before I replace anything. I thought, it was the CV-axle...
I've changed both front wheel bearings on my LS. Both made the sound you described when they went bad. Neither had any noticeable play before being removed.

so no play but if wheel doesn’t contact the ground and you spin wheel do you hear any sounds

Nope, it was quiet. While replacing my first one a friend came over to lend a helping hand, he spun the hub without the brake disc on and asked why I thought it was bad.

hmmm so the only way to tell is sound when it’s moving on the ground hmmm that’s not so easy
