Default 12 vs 07

Hi All,
Still loving the 07 after 2 years and 40,000 miles. However starting to think about my next car. Kind of in a dilemma, there is a 12 460L set up the same as mine option wise, ML, softclose, heated and ventilated seats front and back, RWD, new 19 inch tires. Advantages would be moving up 5 years, much lower miles,, L extra length, my 18 inch winter tires could go on. The one I am looking at has the light parchment interior, current has black. And would probably cost me my car and 16k. New one also appears to be alinine. Or I could drive mine another 2 years until it gets closer to 150k and then look for a 12 or newer. Any thoughts? I am concerned abotu the lighter interior looking worn more quickly, and that generation's look getting older and older.

My personal opinion is the 07 and 12 are too similar looking. If I were going to make a jump it would be to a 2013+ I have black and tan interior LS430/460's and I prefer the black interior for wear purposes the tan shows more wear and dirt over time. Only part of the tan I liked better is the carpet because light dirt shows more on black carpets. 19" wheels you may notice a slightly harsher ride. You also didn't say if the 2012 460L has air suspension or not but that is another thing to consider. I currently have a 2011 460L without air suspension and I would only buy a lwb car now because I like the side proportions of it.

No Air suspension. The issue with the 2013 and newer is the large price differential right now. That's why in 2 years it might be a wiser plan, as long as I don't have to replace control arms and brake actuator In the meantime.

I would probably wait until you can get into a 13+. Anything less than a 13+ will feel too similar in my opinion to justify the large difference you have to pay. I had control arms and brake actuator replaced on my 2011 so the issues are still popping up on the later models.

The ML on the 2010 - 2012 is terrible. The 2007 - 2009 had much better ML audio systems. Otherwise the cars are more or less the same.

Out of curiosity, what's the price on the '12 and what do you think you could sell your 07 for?

In reality, all you'd be getting is a refreshed tail light design, bluetooth streaming, different wheels, and the LWB. Personally I would hold off another year or so and just get a 13+ as I don't see enough compelling reasons for you to go up 5 model years and get a car that looks almost identical to what you currently have. While the 13's are still carrying a premium, I think in 2-3 years you'd have lost more value by purchasing a 2012 given it's the older body style by 2 gens now.

You seem to be happy with your 2007 and aren't having any issues. If that's the case, time is on your side so I would wait it out and get a 2013+.

They are asking 24000 for the 12, I think I would ask about 10k for mine. NADA trade in for mine right now is 9900. The 12 has half the miles, I put close to 20k on mine per year. I think my plan now is to watch it, if they are still sitting on it in the spring I may look again. The 12 is a very nice car, one owner, complete records, new tires, well optioned. But I do really like the spindle grill, so probably wait until the 13 or newer becomes more reasonable and pull the trigger then.

I'm seeing 2013s pop up around $24K with less than 100K miles. You'll see more of them for less if you hold off. The downside is that the value of your car will continue to drop. If possible to do a private sale now to see if you can get around $10K and hold till a 2013 is in your budget and or hope for a trade for $10K. For comparison I sold my 2008 Sept 2019 with 100K miles on it (Comfort plus package and 19inch wheels + 18 inch wheels sold separately) = $12,700. I thought about moving right into a 2010 LS460L for around $18K. Although an amazing riding car, it is now a bit dated and too similar to my 2008. 2013+ seems to be the best built years. I rarely see issues posted here.

I did a quick search at a Lexus dealership that I like and feel like they price things fairly here in FL. They've got a few 2014 460's (not LWB) with 70-77k miles and are asking $27k and those are L certified which carries about a $2k pricetag built in. Each market is different, but LS's here in FL are pretty competitively priced in specific cities with older demographics. I think if you wait a few months you'll see some 2013's in the $25k range in your market.

Yes, I am seeing a 13 in Florida right now with 72k on it, less than $25k, an L RWD vs with upgraded leather, 19 inch wheels, ML, blind spot monitors...just came into a dealership in Sanford. Clean service history..... 1 owner, regular maintenance with no issues. May need to look into it.

I have also been browsing and came across this thread. Here is the listing. https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...1955/overview/ Sounds like a great deal. I wonder what is the interior color.

Edit: It is black on black. tempting. https://www.driversmartusa.com/used/...a9e821e88f.htm

Yep that's it. It might not last long. I did sign up on their site for price updates, I think everyone that works there reached out to me on email, including videos, after I did that. Appears to be a great car, really digging the black on black.

Nothing really to note in that car package wise though. You have the lwb but nothing in the back seat. Just the extra few inches. Many lwb cars came with some sort of rear seat package.
