TPMS Sensors
Anyone have experience with TPMS sensors going bad and needing replacement? Have a 2012 CPO LS under warranty until April 15, 2020. Three weeks ago TPMS light came on indicating a sensor was not working. Dealer replaced sensor under warranty otherwise would have cost about $225. A few days ago light came on again. A second sensor needed replacement (batteries in sensors died) dealer replaced second sensor under warranty. Inquired about replacing remaining sensors since they would likely go soon. Dealer couldn’t do, can’t replace anything until it actually goes. I am OK with this. For me to pay to replace the remaining three (one in spare) to avoid a return trip, $675. Didn’t do it.
I know dealer price is high. Will see if any of the remaining three go before April 2020.
What has been the experience with the life of these sensors installed at the factory? I ve read five to seven years, some still not replaced at twelve years. I think they were mandated on 2008 and later models. What about replacement cost generally at non dealer sites. Appreciate any information.

Yep, mandated for 2008 and later cars manufactured for the US market. These days readily available at most tire dealers for $30 - $50 installed per wheel. Battery life is about 10 years depending on how many miles car is driven.
Richard, just go to Discount Tire store and ask them to replaced the TPMS sensors on the remaining wheels that the dealer did not do so on.
I have an 07 and the batteries finally failed a couple months ago after some 12 years and Discount Tire replaced all five including the spare in the trunk for around $300
or about $60 each for the new TPMS and their labor taking each tire off and then back on, etc.
I can't remember exactly, it may have been even cheaper, call Discount and ask them.
