Gotta have the dealer do this with their scantool. Sorry, no way around it. They'll need the code from the sensor to do this unless they're clever.

i took my sensors to a local tire shop that does have a scan tool and were able to pick up my new tpms sensors when i installed them. But our cars are weird and probably built like this so you HAVE to bring it back to the dealer. Our 4 tpms sensors dont relay signals directly to the ecu, according to my friend that works at the shop there are 2 seperate sensors, one in the front and one in the back. The tpms relays signals to those 2 sensors, and then they go to the ecu. He was able to read the 4 tpms, but not the 2 additional sensors and he had no idea how to read them. So from what i was told only a dealership is able to program this crap.

there should be a code on the sensor John
and if you already installed them, you can just drive your car, and the dealer can just scan the those code off from your tires too, so there is no need to remove them

i need to get this done as well, good thing discount tire is now investing in the scan tools. I found one discount tire in houston that is under the cohart program to teach their staff how to use the scan tool.

the guy that nows how to use it was on vacation so when i went i let the manager mess with it for about 5 minutes and then i said i would come back later. so ill let you know then how it turns out so you can start your search.

BTW it is FREEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

toyota dealers want about a $100 and say it takes about an hour.

lexus dealers want about $130 and say it takes about an hour.

everyone else says it takes about 10 minutes and are either free or want $50.

i copied the code off my TPMS before getting it installed but ill have to update this later and let you know if it was successful at discount tire.

there is only a handful of companies that make the tpms systems for the car mfgs. So these aftermarket scan tools are all designed to work on all car makes. thats why the tpms programmer cost like $2500 plus software upgrades every year. Bartec is one of the leading makers from what i've read and seen.

You can force the TPMS device to transmit its code by rapidly deflating the tire. If you have the programmer connected, it will see the code generated by the sensor, then you just enter the information and you're done. But you have to have the device to talk to the ECM through the CAN bus.
