Exclamation HELP : Issue Changing Lower/Rear Control Arm - 08 LS460

My buddy/mechanic went to change my worn Lower Rear Arm and has run into issues with the Ball Joint. As you can see he's been hitting it with 4lb sledge with no luck. See images here (IMGUR link).

Turns out all arms are worn and he's putting it back together until the other 8 arms arrive, but looking for a plan of attack on the ball joint. Part isn't listed in Rock Auto. Is there a trick to getting it out? All other arms come with BJ's pressed in

Help! Thanks in advance for any tips/guidance here.

Are these the ball joints? Decent brand?
Suggestions on better options? Thanks!

It appears that the ball joints may be retained by the snap rings.

Yep! Sorry, to clarify... looking for pointers on separating the Ball Joint from the Lower Rear Control Arm (driver side). Also, recommendations on part replacement.

Thanks!

From my understanding you will have to remove the full knuckle to get the ball joint pressed out.

Febest sells the ball joints, and they're probably better quality than those you posted. https://www.amazon.com/Joint-Lexus-F...s%2C173&sr=8-3

Just realize that you need a heavy-duty press to get it out, and special tools to line it up and press it in. It's not a nice, straight shot of pushing it in. Unless it's dead, I would not want to replace it.
Thanks for the heads up. Yeah it’s an ugly job and his issue was getting the arm to separate from the ball joint.

He apparently could NOT get the arm free, and damaged the threads trying. Reading other topics on this, that is common. He suggested we replace them. Found the FeBest and ordered a pair to arrive Wednesday with the rest of the arms so hopefully he can have it together again Thursday evening.

Its turned into quite a production. If someone could work up a trick/hack for getting the arm off the ball joint without damaging it.. it would be a huge asset to the community.

The good news is, I went with good parts (Moog/Mevotech/Febest), and my buddy knows the rules on only torquing at ride height, etc.... so I’m HOPING this will be the only time this has to be done.

Hello, lexus forum people. I am very grateful for all the info on this forum. After separating passenger side Lower/Rear Control arm from the lower ball joint, I decided to make a video on the driver's side. Video explains how I separated them.

i had the same problem, ball joint would not separate from the arm, we MAP torched it for a solid 5 minutes, sledge hammered it in a vice still no go. so i took the entire knuckle out and pressed out the old balljoint still attached to the old control arm. you will need the 28ish piece balljoint kit from advance auto parts and also a few different size large metric sockets to press out the old balljoint because the control arm is still attached. you will also need to take the wheel bearing hub out of the knuckle as well to make room to insert into a press.

i tried to buy febest joints but couldn’t find it in their online catalog so i bought some no name joints from amazon and pressed onto new 2013 revised design arms and put everything back together.
