That oil filter access flap was a pain changing oil on your back. Anyone who changes their own oil on the ground knows what I'm talking about. Thought about removing it, but did something else instead. Took the self drilling screw that secures it, folded the flap all the way back and self drilled the screw into the plastic underbody cover using a screwdriver. That way it holds itself up and out the way. Made draining the filter area much easier and cleaner. Afterwards just unscrewed it, put the flap back in position, and screwed it in the usual spot. Worked well.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off offensive. My intention was that it's a valuable thing to post about. But I wasn't clever & proactive enough to initiate a thread about it. Props to you.
Are you sure you're thinking about the same door, and/or the same vehicle? From my memory, the oil filter door is a long way from the front bumper, and not long enough to reach it. I *think* you're thinking of another door.
But yeah, after I started using the screw to hold the door back, I started thinking, man, what a pain this must be with this door in the way. Because it's stiff and would be trying to close the whole time. It's already messy enough without having to fight the door.
I can tuck the flap on my ‘08 LS600hl too, but not on the ‘07 LS460. I suspect the door is longer or perhaps more forward. Regardless, I find using the screw provides larger filter access opening. I also have to check for leaks and close it while still on the ramps on the 600, for once down the ground prevents it from hinging around to closed with air shocks at normal height. Just my observations from past changes.
Must be an AWD thing. My 2010's is not nearly that long … to reach to the front. And I want to say … mine's a bit more centered under the car (left to right). But that my just be my perception.
213374u’s picture looks much the same as my 2008 LS600hL. While changing the oil on the 2007 LS460L yesterday, I took a picture for comparison. This is RWD (pre-AWD option), so perhaps that explains relocation of filter and dipstick placement as Oliver Enterprises remarked.
