Oil Filter Removal
Hi All,
Will the oil drip after removing the oil filter after a short engine warm up?
I am planning to remove the oil filter from the top if the oil does not drip on the bottom cover. Thanks

It will drip a little bit...I'd just take the screws off the bottom (elctric drill makes it a much faster chore), remove the cover and get to it from the bottom side...I would also recommend buying one of those black oil filter "sockets" that cup around the grooves on the outside of the filter....unless your using a K&N oil filter.
Good Luck!
Good Luck!
Thanks FCobra. I think I better off doing it from the bottom, I did bought the oil cap as you suggested to make the job more fun to do.

I have been using the K&N filter for the past two months, and I can tell you my mechanic is going to enjoy the next filter change. Having that easy wrench removal nut at the top is pure joy. Moreover, the K&N filter seems to be a step up in technology from the Purolator-1 type filter Lexus uses.

I got me set of 6 oil filters from irontoad.com,
you have acjoice of american made or japan made
Lexus filters. According my local dealership there is
no quality differential between the two...and irontoad
pricing is very very competitive including adding for
shipping.

There is a difference between the Japan filter, 90915 and the US filter, 08922. These pictures illustrate the differences. While the Japanese filter pictured here is for the V8, the 90915-YZZB9 for the RX also is longer, with more filtration media. The American filter has the traditional thin paper media.
I was speaking of Iron Toad and dealers yesterday. I visited My local Toyota dealer told me yesterday that if I'm changing my oil every 3K-3.5K miles, then the US filter is OK, but if I want to go 5K-7.5K, then the Japanese filter is the way to go. When asked what he uses...the Japanese filter.
Pricing...
Iron Toad: 6 x 90915-YZZB9 @ 5.98 + 6.98 UPS ground
$42.86 and 3-5 days
Toyota dealer: 6 x 90915-YZZB9 @ 6.00 + 2.16 tax
38.16 and 20 minutes.
Lexian,
What's the part number of the Lexus oil filters you bought?
Thanks,

Paddy Wagon: Wow! Neat website...I was amazed at how cheaply the Mobile 1 filter was made as well  I need to take apart a K&N soon and see what's goin on in there too...I hope that $10 is being well spent and not just being thrown away

Hi, sorrry for the delay.
-the oil filter on a brand new rx is: 90915-20003 or 90915-YZZB9
these are a little bit smaller than the US size
-US oil: 08922-02011. You can get them at toyota deal for the same part# and cheaper. You might get it cheaper than $6 if you have coupon.
