Default Removing oil filter without draining oil

Hi,

Is it possible to remove oil filter housing without draining all oil? My filter housing needs to be replaced ( lousy mechanics overtightened filter housing cap and now it can not be removed, I already damaged/scratched filter housing). I bought new one and want to swap it without changing oil (I just put new mobil1). When I remove filter, will all the oil drain?
thanks

You can do it but later you will have to add 0,5 liters of oil.

Only the oil in the filter will drain out. The remainder will stay in the pan and galleys. You just need to replace what comes out with the filter

Is the filter housing leaking? If not it won't leak so why don't you wait until your next oil change.

Does not seem to be leaking, just wanted to have it taken care of. You are right, it can wait till next oil change.

the Lisle claw tool is what I needed and bought to remove it. My God, didn't think my first change was going to be a 4 hour ordeal LOL. The "cup" tools just spin in place, and the strap tools don't work due to the space.

You need the correct oil filter wrench. It is worth the investment if doing your own oil changes.
There are many aftermarket ones available from many places such as Amzn, That is what I have, I forget which brand. Prices range from $12 - $25.
You want one for the 64mm cartridge-style housing with the 14 flutes to grab the oil filter properly. Outside size is 68mm.
The official one is TOYOTA OIL FILTER WRENCH - Toyota (39564-10944)
