Car has been starting/running fine. Went to start the car this morning, all dash lights came on as normal, but it wouldn’t turn over. Made no noise when I pushed the start button. Again, all the lights in the car turned on and even the radio played / AC worked, but the car would not turn on. Thought maybe the battery so tried to jump start it and that didn’t work. Suggestions?
Update on what we’ve tried so far with no change:
*disconnected/reconnected battery; no change
*battery voltage was at least 12
*son has code reader although it wasn’t specific. Threw codes U0073 and C1241
*took it out of park put it back in park. Made sure break was pressed all the way.
FINAL UPDATE:
Something caused a short in the system, and once all the codes were reset in the computer the car started right up. No other noted issues.

Three questions:
1. How many miles on the car?
2. When you push the Start button, do you hear a single click?
3. Was the starter replaced previously or is it still the original starter?
----
Pole Position
Also Press harder on the brake and then try to start the car, It could be a faulty brake switch. Does the brake light come on when you press the brake, if not its the brake switch.

Tried that. Didn’t make a difference. Originally Posted by Ls460kidd

No clicking but all dash lights and display on.
Not sure about starter as I’ve only had the car a month. Was running perfectly with no issues until this morning. Carfax showed extensive service record for maintenance as though car was well taken care of but none of that shows starter replacement.

It could still be the battery. My sister-in-law's RAV 4 died last week, and we tried to jump start it from my wife's car using jumper cables (good ones). No go. The tow truck guy had a big battery pack that he hooked up and it started first time.

I see that you tried pressing the brake harder. but when you press the brake does the rear brake lights come on? There was a warranty recall to fix brake booster on the LS460, I am not sure if that's the case. Also the battery needs to read more than 12v. the battery could have a bad cell in it. Also when you jump started the car did you connect the negative terminal to a metal part of the body or battery? code C1241 points to battery as the main culprit.

Since you already tried to jump start the car and it didn't start, it ruled out a weak battery problem (and an alternator problem). As there are no error codes, and that there is no record that the original starter was replaced by the previous owner, I'm leaning towards the conclusion that your starter is bad. Quite a number of LS460 owners of early model years reported starter failures as early as 50K miles. One of the common reported signs of a failed starter is that there is a single faint click sound when you press the Start button, although some reported no click sound at all. In any case, it looks that your starter is bad. Lexus or Toyota dealer typically quotes $1200-$1600 for replacing LS 460 starter. However, you may purchase a Denso 280-0370 starter (which is the OE starter) from RockAuto.com for about $200 (after returning the core, the net cost is about $150) and find an independent repair shop to replace it for you (typically about $250-$400 labor cost). If you or your family members are handy and you have the tools, you can do it yourself. It is not that difficult to do, just needs the right tools and time (approximately 6-7 hours).

When you get in the car (with the key), and hit the brake, on the start button, there will be a green light. If the light is green, hitting the brake harder will do nothing here.Originally Posted by john341
