Default ‘07 LS460 Dash is cracking

Hello Club Fans. I recently noticed my dash showing several cracks over and around the steering wheel. I called my dealer and apparently Lexus isn’t going to do a damn thing about it. Back in 2004 I bought a Toyota Sienna and after driving it for several years, the dash began to crack. Three years ago, I get a recall notice in the mail from Toyota stating they would replace the dash in my van FREE of charge. I thought to myself, Self…what a great company. Last year I had Toyota replace the dash. So, here I am a year later with a 14 year old, originally valued at $30,000 Sienna with a brand new dash and an 11 year old, originally valued at $90,000 LS460, with a dash that’s starting to look like the sidewalks of downtown Beirut. Any thoughts?

Sheesh, that's rough. That Florida heat is not kind to your interiors... do you have tinted windows? If not, I'd highly suggest getting a decent tint job on your next vehicle, or on this vehicle if you end up replacing the dash...

I have been worried about interior dash area and armrests cracking in the dry heat here in New Mexico.

My 07 is garaged so that helps but I am thinking of first giving everything a good cleaning and then a softening lotion along with a strong anti UV sealant to help stop the cracking. I know it is too late for you as you are already experiencing it, is there any good after market crack fillers?

Lexus have lost total credibility over the sticky door panels and sticky/cracked dashes in their flagship model. I've owned Lexus vehicles since 1992 and have seen the quality of the product and their customer service tank over that time. My 2014 LS will probably be my last Lexus.

I agree. In my opinion Lexus peaked in the mid-late 2000s as far as material/build quality... and really design as well. It was the mid-late 2000s when Lexus decided to jump into the German HP wars and kind of 'lost their way' in terms of what a Lexus should stand for.

All though I have no problems with any cracking on my 01 Lexus LS430, I have been using a windshield sun protector for the last 9 years. It does help protect the interiors as well as keep alot of heat out. Otherwise many southern cars have cracked dash boards as well as cracking leather.

That's because the dash material in the 3rd gen was far superior to the one used in the 4th gen and it shows all these years later. there are florida and california cars which have never been garaged with no melting issues whatsoever. my old 05 ls 430s dash was in as good a condition as the day it was purchased nearly 14 years ago. I have a 2012 now and thankfully there are no issues thus far (with one small exception, previous owner had a dash cam mounted and when the support came off if left a bit of a stain, almost looks like ink), its garage kept so hopefully i never run into issues.

The windshield effectively blocks UV light so I would not think UV "sealant" would be effective. If your side-windows are either lamented (Lexus offered to replace non-lamented front-door windows to minimize wind noise) or tinted, they too will block UV transmission.

Does your dash show signs of becoming sticky? If so, you may want to try and ask Lexus to replaced it under the dashboard/door-panel enhanced warranty.

Well, the windshield (glass) blocks some, but not, all UV rays. In any event. it's probably the IR (heat) that's causing the problem.

Lexus has already hung their early LS460 owners out to dry on this issue (they issued a TSB but probably honored it for about 10% of their owners). No point in belaboring it any more. Vote with your wallet!
