It'll be interesting to see what they deem to be a a "repair". Engine rebuild? engine replacement?

Did you get low engine oil indicator since dip was stick was halfway down?. Did the dealer or Lexus Corp give an explanation what might have caused that?

To answer some questions posed re: my new 2011 with oil consumption issues.

- I didnt get a light with the dipstick 1/2 way down... I assume the full-low range on the stick is a total of 1 quart, so I was 1/2 quart down after 600 or 700 miles,
- I dont know what the details of the 'repair' will be yet, I just got word at 5:30 on Friday that a repair was authorized. Im guessing its rings, but will be looking for details Monday.

Cheers.

Actually, more like a qt. When you hit the bottom of the dipstick it's 2 qts.

Default 2009 awd

2009 awd current 264,500 smiles. 1 qt per 800 miles. I use Walmart 0-20w synthetic, the cheapest one, $14 for 5qt. Car still runs great. I change oil every 10,000 at Toyota dealer.

current mileage: 64500
Oil Brand and viscosity:Mobil 1, 0W-20
rate of consumption in your OCI: negligible if any at 5K miles following oil change
'11 LS 460

I change the oil myself at about every 5k miles or once per year. I use Mobil 1, 0W-20 (about $28 per 6 pack at Costco when on sale).

Wow, that's high. But I guess, on a car that old, it's a lot cheaper to keep topping it up than to get the engine repaired!

I agree. I recently used Cataclean and found it works very well for my car. Very surprising, I definitely felt the power increased and much smoother for driving. I may try it again in a few months. I assume for such a high mileage and long history of oil burning, many parts must be dirty. The Cataclean may help to clean some of the dirty staff (CO2).

Chances are if you car is a 2007-2009 and if the valve spring recall was done incorrectly, you have oil consumption. Other than that, these engines do not burn oil. I’d be curious to see a poll showing all of those who are experiencing oil consumption have also had that recall done. To me, that’s a more informative poll.

I had the recall done and it was consuming oil. Then I replaced the pcv valve. The consumption was greatly reduced.
