Yeah you have a point, when my Honda Accord hit over 200,000 miles it drank the 0w20 for breakfast, couldn't go a week without adding a quart.

My LS didn't consume much oil until it reached the 170,000 mile range, since then it's been drinking the 0w20...time for a change to the good old 5w30. Plus I look at it this way...imagine the shearing of the oil during an oil change interval with those timing chains? Having them slice through that thin oil for all those miles? Timing belt cars don't have to deal with those demands. Then throw in the high pressure fuel pumps run off those camshafts, that's a lot of pressure being placed on that thin oil.

Either that or my rings and valve guides are shot And I'll be trading it in this summer

FWIW, my consumption with syn 5w30 didn't change last time I tried it. It seemed to be the same consumption as the syn 0W20. However, I'm trying it again with Dino on this OCI, and we'll see what happens.

year: 2007
current mileage: 170,000
Oil Brand and viscosity:
Mobil Mobil
1 5W-30
rate of consumption in your OCI: 1.58503 qrt per 1800 miles

My engine is showing the signs of weak rings , way to much oil consumption but it runs . The only solution is paying 2K for a 2013 and up engine when my engine dies , its not worth on re hauling the engine . I bought it at 145.000 miles, the service history clearly states that it needs for a "" RE RING"".

Where would find a 2013 engine anyway?

Yep it has been done before. My Mechanic is telling me that way to many people in my area are swapping to a 13 and up engine. Its fits with the ECU no issues . also the engine we get by importing them from japan . also the 2013 gearbox fits .

The engine was designed for 0-20w or 05-20w non synthetic. Mobil 1 has caused me ring seal issues in my 4 stroke race off road motors.

if it were mine I would attempt to seat the rings by using 0-20w non detergent Dino oil for a while. Bet it helps.

The weather here is 120F so 50-20w is to thin for me . I daily drive 111 miles. Also I have a 2010 L i run the same oil no issues at all it has 130000 miles no consumption at all.

i have stopped oil consumption in numerous engines by removing synthetic oil and going back to Dino oil. Of some weight.

what do you have to lose? Motor was speced for non synthetic

So even with the 5w30 you're burning through a ton of oil?

I'd be willing to bet that you can still get another 100,000 miles out of that engine even with the consumption and worn rings, why not? There are many many people driving around out there with high mileage engines that are guzzling through oil every 500-1000 miles.

But what i would do - to save you from having other problems - is install an oil catch can so that oil isn't just dumped back into the intake manifold through that PCV system. Because eventually you are going to get some problems with some other systems by that oil going through that manifold...EGR ports will get clogged, O2 sensors and cats will get covered in oil (and eventually fail). And luckily this engine isn't a true direct injection motor or else the valves would be so covered with carbon that you'd have multiple misfires. I'm looking to install one myself, I'm using a similar amount of oil, have similar amount of mikes on my car and drive it as much as you do...you should see what I've found in the intake manifold...oil, tons of it just pooling right inside there...not good.

Yea since I get 480 miles per tank . I am willing to keep it running until it dies. I will try to see if i can get an oil catch can. I only cleaned the throttle since i got the car.

Just acquired a 2011 AWD 1 month ago. Just before the dealers 30 day warranty expired I pulled the dip stick. More than halfway down, only 650 miles elapsed on the odometer. Thankfully the dealer is standing behind the sale, more so than I could have asked for. Corp Lexus is apparently going to split the repair cost with the dealer. I am very fortunate.

Cheers.

I had a high rate of consumption in my '07 which is now resolved and is negligible. 127k on the clock. The oil filter housing was cracked and had a slow leak. Using MB1 0W-20, no top up required between 7500 mile changes.
