Default Help...front brake pad clips

I am changing the front pads on my car for the first time. No issues until reassembly...how the heck to you get the spring clips back in place. I have tried sliding the pins through, and have tried hammering the clips on after sliding pins through. I assume there is a trick that I am missing, but this is new to me.

any help is appreciated....thanks

Hopefully by "hammering them" in, you didn't damage them. Also, you should use brake grease on them.
