Default My obsession continues... please help.

i have been looking at 2014-2015 LS models in AZ and I can't seem to find the right one. The 2014 I found was beaten to death. There is a 2013 LS nebula gray, ML stereo, nice features with 37,000 mikes. It is a CPO and they are asking $45,750. That seems very high to me, yet I keep going back to it since it is the color and features I want. Any opinions on buying a 2013? What about price point? Am I better off looking in Orange County when I am visiting my brother next month? The other thing I was thinking about is will inventory increase when people trade in during the December to remember event?

i would appreciate some guidance as you seem so in the know to me.

thanks,
Elizabeth

That price seems absolutely crazy to me. There's another thread going right now of someone in FL currently looking at a CPO 2013 460L (the "L" commands a slight price premium) with 41k miles for $39k asking price. Price varies across the country, but what you're seeing seems insanely high. I'd think that yours should sell in the $35k-$36k range.

Thank you... that was my thought as well. I just wanted to make sure I was on track. Would you even make an offer or are we so far apart it isn't worth it?

I'd recommend going on some websites that provide used car values such as Kelley Blue Book and NADA to see what it shows in your zip code. My zip code is showing a KBB value of $40k (buying CPO from a dealer) for that car. The NADA CPO ("clean retail") is showing $40k for CPO as well. With some data, you can at least constructively push back on the dealer and ask them why they are asking so much. The 2018 LS 500 is weeks away from hitting dealers and making the '13-'17 body style "old" and driving the prices down a bit since it's not the most current body style. I see no way they'll sell that car anywhere near the asking price. These dealers are sophisticated with what they offer on trades- and they have a pretty good idea of what they'll have to spend on the car to get it to CPO status which impacts what they offered someone on trade. I'm willing to bet they gave somewhere around $33k-$35k for trade on it. CPO is worth about $2k and then you add whatever they had to put into it to get an idea of their "cost". I don't know if you can type the VIN into the Lexus Drivers Site to see what's been done by the dealer since they got it, but it's worth a shot (and you should look up the service history on that site regardless).

I would also ask the dealer how long they have had the car on the lot and then see if you can ask someone else at the dealership how long they keep used cars on the lot before auctioning them off. If you don't feel like it's a good deal now, time is on your side because they'll be forced to auction the car off at some point and as long as you offer more than what a wholesaler would offer, you're good.

If you search on www.cargurus.com it will (in most states) tell you how long the car has been at the dealer and show you any price reductions.

$45k isn't outrageous for a CPO in like new condition but it's a mite on the high side. They may come down a couple of thou but that's probably it. You may have more luck getting them to come up on your trade (yes, I know that shouldn't make a difference but, surprisingly, it sometimes does).

You can also get a Lexus CPO "wrap" bumper to bumper platinum warranty for about $2500 for an additional 5 years (taking you out to 11 years from first date in service) if you like that idea.

I did some poking around just to see about what I could get for my (black/black) 2014 LS (AWD) with a little over 10,000 miles [with transferable VSA until 2025] and no issues in case temptation got me interested in the new 2018 LS when it comes out and I came up with values in the vicinity of $46K. So I think that price you got is sort of high for 37K miles and RWD even with the ML audio system.
Maybe the color makes a big difference in value.

My advice from personal experience is to be patient. I checked regularly for over a year before I found exactly what I wanted, and I am very happy with my LS. I flew from CO to TX and drove home a car with the right options and colors, and it was thousands less than anything local.
