Default AC takes awhile to work.

See if I can explain this. Dont remember taking this long for AC to work.

If I have driven the car in the past 30 minutes. No problem, works like other cars.

But longer than 30 minutes.
I start car, no ac and display for inside temp is blank.
After 40 seconds the Nav screen show a quick message "Fan Off"
Then the inside temp will be displayed by the Auto button and the AC starts to work as normal.

Does this sound normal. Again only after sitting for about 30 minutes does it take this long.

Thanks

Nope, not normal. Best to have the system inspected to finger out what is wrong vs guessing it is the refrigerant or this or that.

I did have dealer check it out last time it was in. But they said it was operating normal. I have a feeling they did not wait the 30 minutes to see what it was really doing.

That's a crock and they know it. Find a new dealer!

Does it sound like this issue ?

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...g-problem.html

As it seems similar... If you changed the A/C filter with out putting the AC on recirculation it could cause this problem.

There is a DIY but, it requires you to take the glove box off to check a little plastic tab or the dealer who charges like $1700 for the fix. The DIY if your handy takes about an hour and 1/2, there is a step by step to get the glove box off... The part you need to pop on, takes about a 1/2 a second but, it takes about an hour to get to it.

Grab a water hose, and in between your radiator and the condenser spray water on them and try to spray in between them. Dirt, leafs, and trash gets lodged in between.

If that doesnt work make sure the ac is on full blast and the air circulate in inboard and not out. If your ac still doesnt get cool, take it to a shop and check the refrigerant to see if it is low

An hour!?!?! Whoa, I think the whole process took me 20 minutes as it only involves push tabs that need to be pried out and 4 10mm bolts. I think you may have taken apart more than you needed to.

So once I Take off glove box then what do I do next.
Also I may have used an aftermarket ac filter should I stick with toyota brand only?
Thanks

Once you've dropped the glovebox you'll see the re-circulation door for the air filter. Raise and lower it by hand while looking just to the left of the door and up, you should see a plastic arm moving as well. This is what gets disconnected from the mechanical piece (another arm with a little pin on the end) which controls the re-circulation door. Use a flat head to pry the arms apart just a bit (BE CAREFUL!!! this plastic can become brittle and may snap if you apply too much force) so the pin on one arm seats in the track in the middle of the other arm.

Hopefully that all makes sense without pictures, but dig through the other threads here if you need pics to see what I'm referring to.

I've only used aftermarket filters bought on Ebay. I think I paid 5 bucks or so for them and contain charcoal, which the Toyota ones do not.

Thanks to all.
I found my simple fix. After reading all the post decided to check the filter again.

When I changed the filter awhile back I must not have pushed the filter back in far enough. So The door that switches it to outside air could not close all the way.
Works like it should now and tested to make sure door opens and closes right. Lucky I did not do any damage to the door gears.

This also explains an old post where the guy said he had the same problem. He just took out the filter and turned it upside down and it solved his problem. What I am sure actually happened. Is he just got it pushed back in the second time.

Again thanks for all the advice. The dealer had me thinking this was normal and to live with it.
