Default Power Steering Light and DTC C1555

Hi folks,

Jumped in the car on Friday morning and started the car, only to be greeted with the PS light illuminated and a dash warning saying Check Power Steering and Check VSC System. I believe the VSC is a red herring which is caused by the PS DTC. Obviously the steering was not getting any electrical assistance and was very heavy to operate. I plugged in my laptop and fired up Techstream and got code C1555 - Motor Relay Welding failure. After going through the workshop manual and doing some electrical checks (funny because the workshop manual is actually wrong) it seems the loom is fine and the PS motor on the rack is within resistance spec. This leaves me with replacing the PS ECU as the next step, according to the workshop manual troubleshooting.

Before I go ahead and order the part or find a used one, has anyone here come across the same issue?

Thanks,

Mark

This is very interesting. I have the same problem. Just started the car this morning and got the stiff steering. Upon pulling the code, I got C1555. Does one replace the steering ecu?, Where is it located. I would be grateful for any help.

Hello mpkayeuk or enjo ! Did either of you ever figure out the issue with that code? I have that particular code (among others) now on my 2007 LS460L and the power steering is not working. I appreciate any input you can provide. Thank you!

Hello,
my solution was to replace my power steering rack. I went used to save some money. Located one for around $900 and installed it myself.

good luck!

Default SOLVED C1555 P/S lexus is350 2008

After an hour of investigation FINALLY SOLVED Box steering rack had so much water inside it, because of the rain.
had to totally open it and clean it, changed two bearings inside (need so much tools to do that by ur self)
now its perfect.
Thanks

Where do you suggest I fix it in Dubai because the Lexus dealership will not fix an American Specs car in UAE.

Hi Amir

How did the steering rack on your car went bad. I went through a flood and from then I am getting check power steering warning and code 1555. I am able to use my steering by following a small trick from YouTube while starting the car. Also can you share how much did Al Basma charged you to repair the steering rack. Were you able to use your steering when you faced the problem.

Can you share a link to that Youtube video? I've been looking for it for some time.

I would suggest to look into if there is any code. I had ps lights when I start the car and used the trick to loose the hard steering but after a while started to notice noise from steering box, now I have to replace my steering box.
