Default Windshield type for 2007 LS460

I am need of a new windshield for my 2007 LS460. I was looking for a quote on the Safelite Autoglass website and it came up with multiple options for my car.
  • Solar, Hydrophobic Coating
  • Heated glass, Solar, Hydrophobic Coating
  • Rain Sensor, Heated glass, Solar
  • Solar
  • Rain Sensor, Solar
  • Rain Sensor, Solar, Hydrophobic Coating
  • Heated glass, Solar
  • Rain Sensor, Heated glass, Solar, Hydrophobic Coating
I know I have the rain sensor, but I have not seen any of these other options in my car literature. Do any of you know which one I should choose? I am thinking the Rain Sensor, Solar, and Hydrophobic Coating.

Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge, the LS460 doesn't have a solar, heated, or hydrophobic windshield. But it does have the rain sensor.

Depending on the market, you may have a heated windshield. By "heated" I mean the 2 inch trip along the bottom of the windshield that heats the wipers. My car has it. It's controlled via the Nav Screen under "climate".

I'm so used to living in MA and forget that other places don't have their insurance company pay for glass. Here in MA, all glass is covered for $0 by insurance.

Here in the (southern) States, we have a "front defroster" which, I believe is just hot air blowing on the windshield. It "defrosts" the wipers, too.

I was considering windshield replacement as well and was perplexed by the same question (which windshield to choose from safelite). I ended up holding off, but never got a definitive answer as to which of their 8 options was a match for my car (2013 LS). I was leaning toward the "Rain Sensor, Heated glass, Solar" option but am still not so sure that's necessary. Safelite also didn't specify if the glass would be OEM or aftermarket, so there was that concern too. When I asked my Lexus dealer about it, they surprisingly noted how they do not use OEM glass for their windshield replacements and outsource the work to another company. Overall though, I know that my car does have the heated wiper option and rain sensing wiper system, so the "Rain Sensor, Heated glass, Solar" option seemed to make the most sense..

If you do go ahead with the replacement, I would really be interested in knowing the overall cost and which option you chose. Many thanks in advance and good luck with it!

Try using a site where by entering your VIN and it should give you the exact original part number match.
Sorry, didn't know I'd get... site name censored...?

For my Canadian car (so includes cold weather options) it shows this:

56111 GLASS, WINDSHIELD
56101-50440 LAMINATED GLASS, T=5.48, GREEN1$498.43
56101-50450 LAMINATED GLASS, T=5.48, GREEN, INTERMITTENT WIPER-AUTO(RAIN SENSOR)1$482.23
56101-50480 LAMINATED GLASS, T=5.48, GREEN, SIDE GLASS-LAMINATED & WATER REPELLED & INTERMITTENT WIPER-AUTO(RAIN SENSOR)1$570.05
56101-50500 ELECTRICAL HEATED LAMINATED GLASS, T=5.48, GREEN, WINDSHIELD DEICER-WITH1$554.61
56101-50510 ELECTRICAL HEATED LAMINATED GLASS, T=5.48, GREEN, WINDSHIELD DEICER-WITH & INTERMITTENT WIPER-AUTO(RAIN SENSOR)1$535.99
56101-50540 ELECTRICAL HEATED LAMINATED GLASS, T=5.48, GREEN, SIDE GLASS-LAMINATED & WATER REPELLED & WINDSHIELD DEICER-WITH & INTERMITTENT WIPER-AUTO(RAIN SENSOR)1$589.71

On a side note, below is a list of all the glass and ceramic technologies that Toyota developed over the years...
http://www.toyota-global.com/company...ion/index.html

This site is actually a technical treasure trove to me: showing all the separate little technologies that make our cars so awesome.
You'll see many of them were developed just for Lexus. I also look out for the Toyota Crown: The Lexus before there was a Lexus...

All LSs have the front defroster that blows hot air on the windshield by the wipers.

Many LSs, especially in the snow belt, also have the "All weather package: Enhanced interior heater for faster heat output, higher-capacity vehicle battery, windshield wiper de-icer and more". Taken from the Lexus web site.

UV protection, hydrophobic coating and more importantly acoustic windshield (especially in a quite car such as LS) are 'part' of windshield glass. Rest of those such as rain sensor, heated windshield (technically wiper blades) etc aren't integral part of windshield glass. These functions are managed by another device which may be mounted/attached to windshield such as rain sensor. As long as replacement glass is very transparent (less opaque), should be able to pass through reflected infrared light to sensor.

I am not sure what's meant by 'solar' in Safelite windshields, could be 'UV' protection - I don't know. But what one wouldn't find easily is acoustically treated non OEM windshield. I don't know OEM prices but personally wouldn't put anything but OEM glass on my car.

I had the windshield in my 2008 LS600hL replaced last year. I chose OEM Lexus-branded glass and had the dealer do the installation. Total cost was around $1200. My windshield was the acoustical glass with rain sensor variety, I think.

Why did you replace it? Pits? Can I presume it was not covered by your Platinum VSA due to its wear-n-tear nature?

You are correct, Comotiger. I took a rock strike right in my line of sight that caused a crack. My insurance deductible through USAA was $1000, and Nebraska is one of the states that doesn't mandate a $0 deductible for glass work, unfortunately. I ended up paying $1000 out of pocket. It would have been a bit less using the Safe-Lite generic windshield, but I wanted the Lexus-branded OEM glass.

To be honest, though, I had wanted to replace the windshield anyway. The old one had lots of little scratches and pits from 7 years of driving, and I love having a brand new, crystal-clear windshield, especially when driving east in the morning as the sun rises (my daily commute).
