Picked up a 08 LS460L with 94K. I'm notice I'm getting an average of 11MPG City which is horrible. I recently changed the air filter, but haven't changed the spark plugs yet. The tires are pretty much new and are inflated at 34,33,32,34. What possibly could be wrong. The 07 plugs can be changed later, but the 08 LS460 says 60K for the plug change. Do you think the plugs can be the issue, or Gas filter?
Lexus recommended change spark plug at 60k. Do you drive in power mode? Maf sensor can be dirty too
I'll try cleaning out the MAFS. The car was under warranted, i'm unsure if Lexus changed the plugs but I don't see it on Lexus Driver service list. Everything else was don to the car. The Last owner was meticulous.
Well, "passive" is rather subjective. I get over 20 MPG in mixed driving and I drive "normally."
So maybe my "normal" is less than your "passive."
In any case, most of the gas we use is due to acceleration from a dead stop, meaning that aspect of driving, be it a lot of stops and starts or just "fast" starts will influence mileage.
I see that you are from NYC as well as me. Your MPG is totally normal in NYC traffic. I'm constantly getting around 12MPG in the city and I don't drive aggressively at all. As soon as I go out of the city - highway MPG is about 24-25.
On my 2013 SWB AWD, idling and/or stop and go driving dramatically reduces my MPG, no doubt about it. ECO mode does marginally better. In typically congested Chicago traffic, I average around 13-15 mpg per tank. If I happened to be driving downtown for an extended period and encountering gridlock, I'd be lucky if I got 11. On the highway or in suburban driving the vehicle shines, doing 18-23mpg easy. The best I ever reached on an extended road trip was 26mpg using cruise control at 72mph across flat terrain. Although the tech has yet to be perfected, I really think an LS primarily driven in urban environments would benefit greatly from an engine stop-start system. One feature I wish I had (if executed well)..
The SWB should have come with the GS hybrid system not the portly 600hL set up; and then this problem would go bye-bye. A 386 lbs hit for economy vs a 1000 lbs hit for performance. Besides, I could stand a smaller trunk. If I had a car that got less than 15mpg and it wasn't an exotic it would be for sale (ebay/autotrader/craigs/word of mooth)
Be sure to check the ECT switch - that impacts your MPG.
I drive very passive and my stop and go traffic consists of traffic lights not bumper to bumper traffic, and heavy idling. I don't drive with power mode on. There are a lot of hills here, not sure if that would impact things. I expect 16 mpg not 11-12. I always use premium fuel as well.
books say 16/23 mpg est. A lot of hills do make a differece. My area is flat. the best I see on highway at 60mph is 33. the worst in downtown traffic is around low teen.
Gas price is low and drive to work for me is only 7 mins. I find it is much more fun to drive on power mode.
