CPO and Cosmetic Fixes Question
Good Morning - I just picked up a CPO 2013 LS460 with 11,650 miles on it. I traded my 2010 S class for it and I love the car. This forum has been great for some research and tips about it.
One question to the folks who may be more familiar with the Lexus CPO process than I am...I got it home and found a paint chip in the door edge and a slight dent in the trunk. When I asked the dealer to take a look and fix them, they stated that per "management" cosmetic fixes are not part of the CPO process. The checklist seems to indicate that there is indeed inspection and the opportunity to bring them up to "Lexus Standard" as the first section in the list.
So my question is have others experienced either dealer push-back on these types of things or the opposite? Is there any firm documentation (I have not found any) about whether these types of items are indeed to be corrected as part of the CPO process?
Thanks for the help, looking forward to being part of this forum.

Whether or not it's part of the CPO process is irrelevant in my opinion. The car should be in relatively mint condition when buying the car. When we recently purchased our CT200, there were two small dents in the rear quarter panels. The dealer didn't hesitate to call in a paintless dent repair guy to fix them. It was done in 30 minutes and cost the dealer about 150 bucks.
Be firm with them. Does this dealer (or laws in your area), allow for "buyers remorse" which would allow you to back out of the deal? If so, I would threaten this option unless they fix the issues.

Indeed. I would appeal directly to the dealership GM in a kind yet concerned tone. These sound like very minor, quick fixes and they shouldn't hesitate to take care of them if take pride in their dealership and name. But don't take the salesman's or service advisors no, they may not have the authority to approve such repairs and may just be saying no because it's easy to say it's not included in the CPO.
Mediocrity at some dealerships never ceases to amaze me... Even if it was an oversight (you'd be amazed at how much crap some dealers let slide in their CPO, including tire tread depth - I've seen it!), their response leaves so much to be desired. Plus, we are talking about quick, simple fixes - some stuff is just basic and takes less time to address than to argue to get out of it.
The replies above are spot-on, and I would be firm and polite about your position.
This applies to any vehicle, but the fact that we're talking about a practically-new LS460 only bothers me that much more!

It's hilarious how poorly some dealerships work with you when you spend a considerable amount of money, then act like your typical Ford dealership when it comes to issues. I would first keep it local and try to reason with the general manager of the dealership. If that fails, there are steps you can take. You can also post a negative review on Yelp and the Lexus Twitter and Facebook pages. Believe it or not, these companies pay a lot of attention to what is posted on social media due to the widespread audience. I did this for an issue with Firestone and had a response and a representative helping me within 10 minutes of writing something.
That, or you can contact Lexus Corporate and complain.

So foolish of dealers to refuse minor things like this...it costs them almost nothing to help you with these, a touchup and 15 minutes of their PDR tech's time?
Bottom line is though the dealer doesn't have to repair the items. They should, but you're not going to be able to force them to.

My dealer would NOT update the NAV on my 2012 because it was not on the CPO check list....... I am just waiting for the customer satisfaction" survey to come. Sad when you buy a CPO car at these prices that they fight you on the small BS items that go unnoticed after you get the car home.
Hopefully the OP gets satisfaction.

Perfect? No....but a dent? I don't think it's unreasonable to buy a 2 yr old car from a Lexus dealer and not have a dent in it......unless they reflect it in the price. As I stated, my dealer had no issue fixing the two small dents on our 2012 CT200.....and they're a VOLVO dealer.

Agreed, absolutely they should fix it. My 2011 CPO prior to purchasing, had two minor dents on the driver's door and the color on the driver's leather seat (left side) was a little worn. I made a comment about these items. During the signing of the contract, the salesman walked in and said the dents were removed. Additionally, they wrote up on the 'due bill' to recolor the drivers seat leather. The dents were removed and the driver's seat was perfectly restored, and they provided touch-up paint. Perhaps you should talk to the GM. Good luck!
