Default ABS Actuator - Highest mileage without replacement

Hello all,

Big lurker here. This forum has been a tremendous resource to me for research over the years. We just got my wife a 2010 LS460 with ~130k miles and great service records. Services done every 5k miles, interior panels replaced, all front control arms replaced, new steering knuckles, etc. It's a real pleasure to drive.

I know this topic has been covered quite a bit, but I'm curious if it's not a matter of IF the ABS actuator will fail, but WHEN. I read a handful of threads, and I also saw the thread with the poll in it. Is there anyone who has a very high mileage LS460 that hasn't required replacement? Previous owner had the brakes serviced at the dealership, and I presume everything was flushed at that point, too. Fluid is clear and light when I look at the reservoir. I may flush for peace of mind.

Chime in and let me know what kind of mils you have on your original ABS actuator.

Thanks!

205k on mine. Regular fluid changes at dealer, no issues.

189k on my 2007. The electric motor has been running / charging more than usual for the past 3 years. I have been sucking the old fluid out of the reservoir and replacing with fresh fluid a few times a year. This year the brake motor starting running repeatedly 3 or 4 times in a row. I sucked the fluid out and it went back to normal. It hasn't thrown any codes. I think doing a proper brake fluid flush at this point may be the final nail in the coffin.

Do periodic brake fluid flush and you should be OK.

Changing the rubber brake reservoir cap doesn't hurt either. Get oem of course. A new one seals much more tighter.

Had 100,000 miles on my '07 on original actuator when I sold it. My 2014 actuator had to be replaced at 30,000 miles.

I was at 179,000 miles in my 2007 when the actuator finally started making noises whenever I stepped on the brake. Knew it was only a short matter of time, so I traded it in.

But I did do brake fluid flushes on it...I don’t think THAT really helps. Thought about buying a used actuator off eBay, but the car had other problems...burning oil, needed tires, brakes, interior was starting to melt on the drivers side arm rest, needed a passenger side mirror (a turkey hit it on the highway). But I loved that car! Put most of that Mileage on it in four years...was averaging 26 mpg when I got rid of it. Probably could have gotten another 100,000 miles out of her with a little effort.

My brake actuator had to be replaced at 165k miles on my POS 2008 Lexus LS460. Bought actuator online from lexus dealer for $995 plus $200 install at indy mechanic.

I need to add this item to the top 5 issues on my LS460
