Default Sticky Dash Recall - Warning

I took my LS460 in for the fuel system recall the other day.

While I was signing all the papers and talking with my service advisor, part of the discussion involved the plight of the service tech when doing recall work.

All too often, manufacturers don't pay enough hours to cover the actual work involved and the techs take it on the chin.

My service writer confided in me that the dash recall is looking to be another stellar example of this problem.

According to him (and he was quoting from memory, not looking at anything printed), Lexus is allowing about 2 hours to R&R the dash.

He said reality is more like 6 hours, and at times you need two techs to do the work.

In my book, really short pay times on long recall work = shoddy effort.

My car is covered by the campaign, but doesn't have the sticky dash problem, so I'm not worried.

For those that do have the problem - be careful. I don't know how you'll know if they beat it back in with a BFH, but some careful observation of the state of affairs under the dash - maybe some pictures (probably will have to remove covers do do this) might be a good idea.

Rushing this process could result in a car that used to have a sticky but quiet dash turn into a non-stick-but-squeaky mess.

Just my 2 cents.
