Default Newbie here, just bought a 2008 LS460

I bought a 2008 LS460 today with 40,100 mi, one owner for $29,500. It is a local car here i FL and all maintenance was done at the dealer I bought it from. It has the ML stereo which is about the only addt'l option. Any way should I buy a warranty? The Lexus dealer is quoting me $2775 for 3 yrs and $4100 for 5 yrs. I have until I pick it up tomorrow to decide. Help!!!

Congrats. Love my 08 LS. If u have the ML, you should have the DVD and hard drive. Probably have a heated steering wheel too. I find cool stuff all the time.

Some say the warranty is a good thing. Like any insurance it's nice for a major issue. Most things can be done reasonably inexpensive if you find a good repair shop and therefore some don't get an extended warranty.

You can always pay Lexus $125 and they will give the car a head to toe inspection.

Enjoy! Let's see pix.

Congrats on the new car and welcome to Club Lexus.

Whether to get the extended warranty depends on your risk tolerance and financial situation. However, one thing I would do is have an independent inspection of the control arms. If the bushings are gone, or are going, it can be an expensive repair. In that case the warranty would be a bargain.

I purchased an extended warranty from Carchex for a great price. They covered the control arms and a blower motor so far (only 2 issues I had so far). Check them out as a much cheaper alternative if you decide to get a warranty.

Well the dealer has performed a 120 pt checkout and changed the fluids rotated the tires, 4 wheel alignment and replaced the water pump. I'll have to check and see if the control arms were on the list. Is there a place to buy a warranty cheaper than at the dealer? They tell me their warranty covers the same as a new car warranty. Rides beautifully and the ML stereo is great, I pick it up tomorrow. I might get the 3 yr warranty.

You can use the search function to see which ext warranty some CL members purchased. If you belong to a credit union, that can be a good source of an ext warranty. You will need to compare the coverages, limits, etc. as plans from diff carriers may not be the same, and may also be different from the ext Lexus warranty. If it was me, I'd buy the 3yr Lexus ext warranty

Well after reading about the control arm issues I think I'll go with the 3yr warranty the dealer is offering, that's about half the price of the repair. Also that's about how long I usually keep a car anyway.

Thanks guys!!!

Bought my 08 LS460 3 1/2 months ago with 58,xxx mi for $29500, with 3 yrs CPO warranty up to 100K mi (total miles). Dealer offered me additional 3 yrs / 25K mi for $3500. I negotiated the price and brought it down to $2500. I ended up with 6 yrs and almost 67K miles warranty. Try to negotiate and hopefully get it for $2500 or less.

The extended warranty prices are always negotiable so do try to talk them down. Reputable 3rd party warranty companies include Carchex, WarrantyDirect and of course check with your credit union...

When I got my 08 a few month ago. I went with a 3 year Lexus warranty $3000. Thanks to this forum I was aware of possible control arm replacement. Few weeks ago I brought the car to a dealer to have them check the front end. Warranty covered all 8 control arms to a tune of $6000 almost.
I just paid for alignment.

I would say get the Lexus extended warranty. It is well worth it.

Welcome to CL! You're gonna love this forum. Lots of good folks here!

Rule #1......post a pic of your ride! LOL

As for warranty, it's a gamble. A gamble that obviously the warranty company feels will fall in their favor, otherwise they wouldn't be so eager to sell it to you. When it comes to the control arms, the warranty is only a bargain because those that used it for that purpose, chose to have Lexus do the work and use Lexus parts at exorbitant prices. This repair can be done for well under 1g dollars. If I had purchased the warranty offered to me over a year ago, I would have only used it once.....for a water pump which I replaced for 55 bucks (plus coolant).

Welcome to the LS family post pix as soon as you can!

Also, i think that you may even still have some negotiating room on the warranty once you get into the finance room with the finance people...(did for me)

Orig. poster here. I checked out carchex and ended up with the warranty from the dealer. They came down to $2500/3yr, close to carchex and no deductible.
