I believe the 12v wire to the dome light is always be hot but the circuit is completed by the door switch (to ground). Can you confirm and, if so, ground your device through the dome light ground?

Yes, the wire at the domelight is constant hot. So I'm not an electrician but I can follow instructions pretty well. What I have is a suspension (wheel) light kit installed and it has a orange +12v input that you can wire in an alarm trigger or something like that.
What I want to do is wire into my domelights so they come on and go off as the domelights do.
Can you offer easy to follow instruction as to what wire needs to be attached where?
Thks
