Brake Pad Thickness
So when I had my 30,000 mile service done on the 24th of July with 29,730 miles my brake pads measured 7mm on both front brakes and 6mm on both back brakes. When I had my 35,000 mile service done on 18 August with 33,722 miles my front brake pads were now at 6mm on the front and 6mm on the rear. I had just driven 3,992 miles through the mountains out to Olympia, WA and back to Omaha. Lexus of Omaha was recommending that I have my brake pads changed soon to prevent damage to brake sensors. What is the normal thickness of the brake pads when they get down to the sensors? Lexus of Omaha said I should have the brakes done in the next 5-10,000 miles. Even at 10,000 miles I would only have 43,722 miles on the car. Is that a normal brake pad life span? I know there are some factors that come into play, like type of roads driven etc.

As disc brake pads are easy to replace, I check them periodically. When I hit 50,000 miles on my 2010 LS460L AWD, I replaced them (although they would have likely crossed the 60,000-mile mark) with OEM pads. I have had excellent experience with the OEM pads.
I commute about 40 miles each way into mid-town Manhattan. The morning commute is essentially highway-type driving, with few stops. The evening commute is heavy stop-and-go traffic. Thus, my Lexus experiences a good mixture of traffic types and is likely a valid reference point for wear-and-tear.

Ok, great. I won't rush out and redo the brakes at this point. At 6mm I am guessing that I still have at least half of the pad thickness left. How thick are the OEM brakes pads anyway? The rotors are in great shape

From what I know and understand, you don't want to wait for the brake sensor warning. If that happens, you have to replace the sensors, which are costly. Pads are cheap. I think I paid $125 or so for all 4 wheels. I install them myself. Pads are easy to replace. Discs, not so easy, but doable. Good luck!
