Default Hard Drive Question

Ok, my '08 LS had a built in hard drive for my music, but the '12 does not. So, looks like I will need to purchase some type of HD for my music. I looked at the Nano which has Bluetooth and would assume it will be able to hook up to the "BT" system, correct? But, I'm wondering if anyone has found something better than the Nano for music? Also, if instead of using the Bluetooth connection you connect via the USB port, does it charge the Nano? Thanks for any suggestion on this.

I use a 160gb iPod classic. Charges and sounds much better than my bluetooth iPhone.

Thanks for that tip Jeff. I'll check it out. It doesn't seem to have Bluetooth, so I guess you hook up via USB, correct? Does it charge while plugged into the USB port in the car? I want to have something that will stay in the car full time unless I need to update with new songs.

I leave mine in the car connected to the USB all the time. Yes it charges the iPod. It is searchable for playlists, artists, songs. I normally select a playlist and hit random.

I have a bunch of playlists. Great fidelity, very easy to use.

If you go with the Apple lossless file types you will be pretty pleased. Yep, I'd install the iPod, too.

Thanks for the comments....sounds like the iPod Classic is the way to go for sure. I'm glad it is charging when plugged into the USB port. Not sure what "lossless" file types are, but will look into it.

I have an iPod Classis in my 04 UL. Had to purchase and install a ViasTech unit in order to make connection and allow all stereo functions to perform. The iPod is in the govebox and never comes out except when I want to add or change music. The VisaTech unit allows the iPod to be charged in the car. The other thing that it did was it overroad the "I Agree" button that was a part of the 04.

I wouldn't have my stereo any other way.

Okay, got the iPod Classic and it does work great. In fact, was surprised that I was able to work the iPod's menu on the Nav screen while driving (haven't installed my override button yet). Anyway, quick question.....and I believe the answer to this question is "yes", but if you keep the iPod plugged into the USB port in the center console, when you turn the car off I would think the iPod must turn off, correct? Sorry for such a simple question! It does appear to be off, but would hate for it to be pulling on the car battery some how. Thanks.

Don't know how Lexus do it but our 2010 Prius doesn't supply power to the USB port when the ignition is off.

You are correct, the power to the iPod is off when the car is off. Also a "Stop" command is sent to the iPod by the head unit when you turn off the car.

Works great

Thanks Jeff......I did hook it up and all seems to work great. And thanks for confirming there is no little battery drain going on. An awesome replacement for my '08 built in hard drive.
