Default Replacement tire recommendations

My 460 is ready for new tires. Living in Chicago with really bad roads, I am looking for the softest, most shock absorbing tires to give me the smoothest ride possible.
What tire should I buy?

Well, a lot of that has to do with sidewall height. If you're rolling on factory 18" wheels, then I would stick to that. My car has factory 19" wheels. Going to a larger wheel will get you a smaller tire sidewall (if you're sticking to a factory overall wheel diameter). The small sidewall is gong to translate more of that road harshness into the vehicle. I would be more concerned with tire wear, and the performance of the grip in dry, and wet weather. The Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires get excellent reviews.

I had 4 Michelin Energy Saver A/S tires installed. Great ride and a quiet tire. That's what I would go with again...
55,000 mileage warranty.

I just purchased Bridgestone Turanza Serenity and they are very quiet and comfortable. They were recommended from the person I talked to at tirerack when I said I wanted a quiet tire that was good in rain/snow and had a decent wear rating.

Having read numerous tire threads, or should I say treads , I agree with Patgilm. I haven't owned these tires, but members here have raved about their quiet and comfortable performance.

I put on Michelin MXM4 tires and am pleased with the ride and quiet. I have 18" wheels.

These are the single BEST tires you can put on an LS460 for both A) a GREAT, smooth Classy ride; B) Superb mileage and C) being a QUIET tire.

Unfortunately, this tire has been (for at least what we need for an LS460 - 18" or 19") been discontinued by Michelin, and they do not currently offer an alternative that comes anywhere near as close.

IF - You are able to find them in stock @ some retailer, grab them while you can.

Good Luck in whatever you do choose, however.

Just a word of caution on the Mich HX MXM4s - they were OE on my Acura RL and even with AWD, they did not perform well in snow after two seasons of use. They were good quiet riding tires though.

I switched to Mich Pilot A/S on the RL and they were quite reliable in snow, even when I had about 35,000 miles on them. Better cornering performance than the MXM4s as well.

Currently running Conti DWS on my SC430 (just to keep this on topic for Lexus) and they're much better than my old Pirelli RFTs. But I guess anything is better than an RFT ... Will probably buy Conti DWS again.

In the many may years of buying tires I would have to say that Michelin are generally the best tires I have ever come across . They are usually a bit more expensive but they are well worth it

I guess I am not familiar with Michelin HX MXM4s. What we and others here were/are recommending are: Michelin PRIMACY MXM4's. And again .......... the Michelin PRIMACY MxM4 tire type performed FLAWLESSLY for some time.

I believe what you are referring to are: Michelin PILOT HX MxM4's and those are NOT what we are recommending here.

But alas, again, for a STOCK size that came with our 18" or 19" LS460's, currently Michelin does not offer an EXACT match for this size in their PRIMACY MXM4 line.

You can look further here and examine: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...%2FPerformance

You can also read the mostly "5 Star" reviews here: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...ager.offset=10

If you can find a retailer with this tire type and he has the size we need in stock, grab 'em while you can !!!!!

Best Wishes, Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA

Same here, I'm happy with my Michelin Energy Saver A/S on my LS 460. I have Michelins on my GX 460 as well.

I tried Michelin Pilot Primacy and they were horrible. They were extremely noisy at 60mph+. Will never have them again.

Looking at ContiSportContact 2. But the reviews on TireRack.com aren't encouraging.
