LS 460 USB input

LS 460 USB input
I am told that the 2011 LS 460 (non- Mark Levinson) has a USB input. Can someone please tell me what format the music on the USB flash drive needs to be for the music to play on this system from the USB flash drive?
WMA, WAV, FLAC, etc.
The person I am trying to help would like to input all his music on this USB flash drive and be able to play it in the LS 460 in the random or shuffle mode. I just don't know what format the music files need to be in or whether or not the LS is able to play music from a USB flash drive.

my Rx uses either .wav or MP3 format and you can shuffle through individual folders or through all folders by holding down the random button for a few seconds. On the Nav screen you will see somthing like FLD.RAND which means it is pulling from all the folders on the USB stick. Pushing random only picks the songs in the currrent folder you are listening to.
There is a post around here that has a picture of the manual that details the acceptable file structure which is basicly FAT32 and Windows but I cant seem to find it.

I was hoping to use an SD memory card but it didn't work. I used a little USB adaptor that accepts SD cards (the ones I use in our camera) and plugged it into the USB port in the car. I loaded a few MP3 files on the SD card with my computer then tried it in the car. Nothing recognised. I suppose this arrangement doesn't constitute an MP3 player.

It seems that only MP3 and WMA files can play on this system.
I transferred some WMA music files to a USB stick for my boss. He got it to play but is complaining that the volume is very very low. Is there a reason for this? Any recommendations? (other than turning up the volume).

I've noticed that volume levels are different between FM/Sat/USB/CD but not a large amount. The problem may be related to the source files and, if so, you could use an audio editing program to boast the volume level. I'm not very familiar with this but there are a lot of them on the net for free. Perhaps others can advise.

All that said, you can level out the volume of your mp3s in an audio editing program. This is what I do whenever I make custom CDs to play in my car or at home. This certainly makes the listening experience better and more consistent when switching between songs or sources.
