Default 2007 460 Strange Engine Noise

I have the same strange ticking noise that rcpromo1 described. I just took my 460 to the dealer and they said it was "injector pressure ticking and fuel pump noise" as well. I told them I had driven the car for over a year with no engine noise and after the VSR, it started sounding like a VW. I'm meeting with the Service Dept. Foreman tomorrow. Thanks to all the good information in this and other threads, I am going in armed with lots of information and the TBIS. I'll let you know what happens.

Yeah, we want to know if you won or are you still trying to convince them that there is an issue.

I spent about an hour with the Foreman listening to the noise. He just continued to assure me that tapping noise was normal. When I asked him why it didn't make that sound until after the VSR, he indicated that it must have made that noise previously and I must not have noticed it! I had him bring another 460 over so I could hear it make the same sound. It did, but not as loud. He assured me that if he could fix it he would, but he couldn't. I just don't love my car like I used to anymore. I'm so dissappointed in Lexus!

I suspect that your "engine noise" is normal. I think it is time we had a discussion about the word "normal." Webster's definition of Normal, when used in the context above, is: (A) according with, constituting, or not deviating from a norm, rule, or principle; (B) conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern. With that in mind, the wind noise, brake actuator noise, engine noise, and failed audio system amplifiers, all seem to be "normal," although undesirable characteristics of many of these cars.

I agree I'm a lot less enamored with the car. The dealer has really tried to fix it but can't get it done

Default 2007 ls 460 l

Since I discovered noise in upper parts of engine , sitting 4 - 5 days , I paid visit to Lexus dealer , so the dirty game just began . Firstly they claimed : "everything is normal" . Being convinced about LIFTERS MALFUNCTION , I left the car in their parking lot and gave them chances to listen , when engine is cold . Again - I heard - they didn't . I requested inspection from Lexus . Much delayed , after 2 month , finally they sent their "specialist", who claimed he drove 10 miles and heard nothing .
I reminded , that noise can be heard in the very few seconds after cranking the engine , response as usual - WE DID NOT HEAR ANYTHING .
Looks , like Lexus Corp. is filled with sweet talking reps , who learned just one sentence :
"We are sorry to hear it" and we will contact our Customer Satisfaction Department . That's it .
No repair has been performed , nor any attempts to find the reason . Engine still makes noise and my anger goes to the stratosphere . Car is under warranty and on top of this I bought additional coverage up to 100,000 miles . All of it is a big joke . Charging almost $200.00 for oil change , doesn't make them technicians . They are simply pretending to be mechanics . Is this IGNORANT
ATTITUDE of Lexus just standard or is there any way of finding simple ( maybe even legal ) responsibility , after collecting over $80,000 ?
Using this forum , I'm asking everybody to help me . I simply can not let them ignore me anymore .

Really wish Lexus will issue a TSIB for that well known issue. Was dreaming that VSR will fix but in vain. This noise on my '07 is louder than newer bluetech aka Diesel engine --this is ridiculous for a car in that class!

We should do something about this problem. I am out of warrenty...wonder if they will have a solution since they don't have to make claim with lexus corp to fix the problem. I am going in tomorrow to get a quote on my navigation system. @ 48000 miles I complained my HDD wasn't working (HDD would play the recorded song but no sound). Dealership checked and said there was nothing wrong with HDD since Navigation was working fine. As of last week (@70218 Miles) Bluetooth, Rear Camera and Navagition all are not working. Anyone going thru this right now...

We own an LS460 2008, when we received the recall notice that all the valve springs needed to be replaced, because they were braking, we were very concern that something else could be damaged in this process, because it was a mayor disassembly project and our fears came through. Soon after a knocking noise started coming from the rear of the engine right trough the fire wall and very noticeable inside the passenger compartment, even our Lexus independent specialist that services our Lexus cars for the last 14 years, says that from all the LS460 his company services, is the loudest of all. We have visited 2 times the original Lexus dealer we purchased from J. M. Lexus and Lexus of West Kendall for service in Florida; they all say all the LS460 have a noisy engine due to the 2 high pressure gas pumps and even the brand new 2012 would have the same noise. We took the time to test drive one with 500 miles in the odometer and of course did not have the knocking noise.
This is the most absurd answer response we ever heard. We have written 4 certified letters including the top Toyota representative Mr. Yoshimi Inaba Toyota Motor North America, Inc. Chairman and CEO, trying to get Toyota involved to do an inspection by one of their top engineers to trouble shoot this knocking noise that is causing it and they are ignoring our request since the beginning of the year. The original warranty is going to run out by the end of this year.
We welcome any similar comments from other LS460 or any other Lexus owners that are experiencing similar knocking engine noise.

You live in a state that has very strong consumer protection laws and that option may still be open to you.
