Default Upgrading the latest Gen 9.1 software on 2008 LS460

I have a 2008 LS460. Do anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the software to the one that is on 2010 LS460. I am not interested in upgrading the navigation data update, but the actual s/w that runs on the new models.

Cheers,
Sunil

while i can't say with 100% certainty, the possibility is low. it's pretty much a new generation of nav in the 2010, and from past experience (with previous generations), it's more than just firmware changes

I'm pretty sure you can't change from the 2008 to 2010 navigation system software, the database can be updated however.

I heard it's possible, and I personally think it is possible though I don't know for sure.

Of course, a Lexus dealership would be the best to ask.

the 2010 is a pretty different system from layout to functionality

JFNash, would be good if that's the case for 2010, though i am still on the doubtful side. between gen2 to gen3 nav (say between the 02-03 GS), there was no way for you to update unless you get a whole new nav ecu. same with the gen4 to gen5 (between 06 and 07 GS), no way to upgrade unless you change the hardware.

Hi Sunil,

Your Gen 5 Nav interface is not interchangeable with the Gen 6 Nav in the 2010 models. You could upgrade to the Gen 6 Nav, but it will cost you rougly $12k in just hardware alone. The wiring harnesses between the two systems are not interchangeable as well. The cost of hardware, wiring and labor...it will not be worth the trouble. You would be better off trading up to a 2010.

Can anyone explain what the major differences are between the Gen 6 and Gen 5 NAV systems?

I just upgraded to the latest 9.1 map release and have noticed a few improvements, including losing the "I agree" screen and slightly different behavior while on a freeway. I assume that I'm still on Gen 5 version of the software.....

the whole layout has changed. i think it has weather info now? and also on audio page it has the usb. function wise it has go to a "folder / tab" base look. basically the whole thing from graphics to how stuff are organized have been modified
