Default Extended Warranty

What is the approximate deal on a 7 year extended warranty for my 1 year old 2007 (bot Oct 2007) LS460?

My local dealer wanted $2980.00 for the same.

Extended warranty...hmm depends on how long you plan on keeping the car. Sometimes these can end up just being very profitable for the dealer, and you don't use it. OTOH, sometimes you can benefit...depends on exactly what is covered though.

I think you mean profitable sometimes for Lexus.

The dealer buys them from Lexus, and get's to mark them up a certain percentage.

Lexus then hopes they don't have to pay out on them.

I guess occasionally some lucky buyer gets to make out on the extended warranty, but I have to believe this is the most profitable extra ever sold by any manufacturer.

You can't buy a more dependable car or item of any kind than a Lexus. I'm not dissing any of you who have bought the extended warranty, there is certainly a value to buying peace of mind, but my guess is less than 1% of you would ever need the protection.

i agree the lexus is very reliable but they have so many gizmos something is bound to go bad at least once in 100k miles. I learned this lesson in my last 3 cars, as I thought they were solid then suddenly after 60k miles thats when things started falling apart.

I got ripped off by the 7 year 100k warranty from the dealer when I bought my car I paid $3k last month, but at least I have piece of mind for the next 7 years

I also prepaid my maintenance to the dealer for up to 50k miles for $2k, they will cover all the service intervals up to that number. What I kept in mind is costs keep rising at least I locked in the prices for those services up to 50k mile, and basically I shouldn't have to pay a cent up to 50k miles excluding wear and tear items.

I do concede your point about the "gizmos" rueym. There is no question if some of these systems (e.g. the nav system) went down, the repair cost would equal the cost of a new Hyundai!

I bought the 72 Month/120000 kms Extended Warranty for $1775 on my 460, and hated myself for doing it. The reason was I drive at least 50000 kms per year, so it was waste. Fortunately, they threw in $500 worth of oil changes, so that took some of the sting out of it. I would have burned up those kms in less than three years, and already had about 46000 after one year. When it came to trade in for the 600, the question came up again, and I told them to stick it. This car is rock solid, that's what we pay for, and that's what we get. As for the gizmos theory, take a look at most Japanese made goods...

So, it's no soup for you Lexus!
