LS460 Wind Noise Fix (continued discussion)

Whit,
My thinking is that they were repurchased from individuals because I don't think they would have to have the notation in the title if they were taken back by a leasing company. You can see that these cars are being offered at a huge discount, typically more than $20,000 less than their peers that don't have the wind noise title notation, and even then they are not selling. It is a real opportunity for someone who understands the wind noise problem and is able to determine if they can be fixed with the triangle trim repair.
Jeff
My car was leased and was repurchased by Lexus from a leasing company (LFS).

I am not surprised that the cars are being bought-back from leasers. I would be interested to know if the title for your car had a wind noise notation added after it was repurchased. I believe that some states do not require it and Lexus and the leaser would certainly want to avoid that because it instantly devalues the car. It is probably easier to get around putting a notation on the title when the buyback is a multi-tier or third party transaction.

Has anyone been able to confirm that the wind noise issue is actually getting fixed on these buy backs before they are re-sold? My guess is they are NOT and since they disclosed wind noise those buyers can no longer complain about it or expect a fix. I currently have a 07 Audi S4 on a lease and am heavily considering a used LS460 once my lease is up.

i dropped my car off for severla tsib fixes including wind noise.
i just got an es350 loaner. wow, it makes me realize how my ls460l executive isnt as bad as i thought. the es350 is very noisy and windy etc. aside, from noise, it makes me appreciate all my luxuries i have. i dont think i would every buy a es350. it seems so cheap inside.
i cant wait to get my baby back. wow its gonna feel so good to get inside it again. im hoping i will feel a difference with all the tsib fixes i told them to do.

Well said!
I completely agree. Little nits in my car drive me up a wall. Well that is until I get in other cars. I was recently in a 2008 7 series and it was much more noisy inside (both in wind and road noise).

Buyer's Of "Wind Noise Buyback" Vehicles Beware!
Contrary to what most of the eBay and dealer ads say, it looks like the wind-noise-buyback vehicles might not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. If you are buying a used Lexus LS you should check very carefully.
http://www.lexus.com/cpo/overview/warranty.html
Part of what it says under the Exclusions clause:
Quote:
Lemon Law
A vehicle with (a) major, repeated problem(s) that has been repurchased by, or had its purchase price renegotiated with, the manufacturer. State laws then earmark these as Lemon Law, Buyback or Salvage vehicles. These vehicles are ineligible for Lexus Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty coverage.

This car was a Manufacturers buy back, I checked with the Lexus dealer and they said, looks like it had a wind noise problem that wasn't addressed fast enough to customers satisifaction, so Lexus bought back or traded for another car as a good will gesture, check with a Lexus dealer for extra info. The wind noise issue was taken care of with I think with a new windshield seal, and I have driven on a few occasions and there'e no winbd noise, but is on record as being a buy back and title will say Manufacturers buy back. Car is under full factory warranty to about Feburary 2011, bumper to bumper. If you don't mind saving a few Thousand dollors for a minor issue that was taken care of, You save a few bucks for having Manufactures buy back on your title because of the buy back issue, see last picture for copy of currant title. Will meet at Atlanta airport if driving home or make availiable to shipper. Check out my feedback and other auctions and bid with confidence you'll get a LS460 as described.

Gentlemen,
We have a possible breakthrough on the wind noise issue officially from Lexus. I emailed my salesperson at the dealer this afternoon about the recalls on the LS460 and 460L and the RX 400h since we own both. Look at his reply below and pay particular attention what he says (on his own) about the wind noise issue. If Lexus is talking about the "triangle fix" that Jeff invented, then this is very exciting news. I just told the salesperson that I did the fix (Jeff's fix) on my own after I was not satisfied with what they did at the dealer. I am anxiously waiting to see what he says. Anyway here is what he said on his first response to me when I was asking about the recalls:
"Yes we were informed of the issues last week and are awaiting a report that provides us the VIN’s that are affected. Also, I am adding you to the list of LS460 owners that still experience wind noise. Lexus is releasing a new trim design next month and I want to have the parts ordered for your car so we can install this change. I will contact you on the other issues when we know what vehicles are affected".
If I missed this news I apologize, but to me this sounds like brand new information from Lexus about the infamous wind noise problem. It will be very interesting to see what Lexus has to say when this comes out next month.

Have you hear anything new from your dealer? My dealer states that there is no tsib.

No I have not and I am wondering what the heck is going on. I am going to see the sales manager this evening when they show the new generation RX350 to the public. I will certainly inquire about the supposed wind noise "fix". If this fix deals with taking the doors apart, etc. I will tell them to forget about it. That is NOT the fix. But, I am holding out some hope that they actually now are ready to implement jmcraney's REAL fix. I will report back tonight or tomorrow.

A Case Of Midlife-Onset LS Wind Noise Syndrome?
A year ago, when I first tried to get Lexus interested in doing something to help LS owners who were experiencing wind noise problems, I opined that some of the LSs, even though they didn't have the wind noise when they were new, would develop the problem as they aged. We are seeing hints of that in some reports in this discussion thread. So, if you think your car is developing the wind noise problem, it's probably not your imagination.
Here is a link to a CarFax report for a 2007 LS460. I am not sure why we are able to view this report, you usually have to pay to see these kinds of records. Also, this seem to be a complete set of records, kind of unusual for Carfax because the servicer doesn't always report these details.
It is noteworthy that the car was driven for a year (23,148 miles) before the first report of unusual noise (body noise). Then, a month later (24,898 miles) there is a notation of wind noise. There is no indication that the car was repaired - that's probably when they told the owner it was his imagination. This may be an example of a car that didn't have the wind noise problem when it was new but developed it after it had been in service for a while.

A Case Of Wind Noise Syndrome Relapse
Here is an interesting post that recently appeared on the "Other-Lexus-Owners-Group" site. I don't think the "fix" that he is referring to is the Triangle-Trim-Fix that has been discussed in this thread.

Here is what was said at the above link:

i was one of the first to receive the wind noise fix almost one and a half years ago. i know i didnt purchase the car with this extreme wind noise anomaly, it suddenly developed after one month post purchase. well guess what, it developed again.it is quite humiliating when your female passengers try to put the windows up thinking they are opened a little.in 2007, i had a difficult time with corporate lexus re. my dissatisfaction, so im worried now 2 years later, that there isnt any recourse. has anyone experienced wind noise again after the fix, and now what can be done to rectify this problem?

I am a Mac user and the other site doesn't seem to work very well with my browser. I have tried to send him a message but I don't seem to be able to do it. Somebody could do this owner a real favor by suggesting that he look at this thread.

Lexus take forever to fix this. They are keep promising.
I just found out there is another problem with my 08 Ls. here is the problem: whenever open my driver side window down haft way or little bit more down, and then I try to close the window up. I notice that the seal on the B pillar is kink, and when I put my ear to it, i hear another windnoise. ( this is suck). I row my window all the way down, and look at the seal spot, there is a hard kink mark on the seal that make the seal not close properly. look like it been there since day one. this happen everytime when I row my window haft way down.
I will let the dealer know about this.
