I suppose the dealer could order the units, but be prepared to pay a hefty price, about $5,000. Other than the basic install, there are circuitry issues you will also have to tackle. As for the rear, they are LED units, at least the brake lights anyway, as well as the high-mounted strip light, so your question is a little confusing.
I don't understand the fascination with or the advantages of LED headlights.
I don't notice much difference between my LED headlights and Xenon headlights, other than the blue color of the Xenon (which I actually prefer).
I can't tell if they dazzle more or less because I've never seen an LS600hL driving toward me at night ...
I know they last longer (I've heard 10 years) but surely that can't be the reason. Are they supposed to be brighter? Do they illuminate the road better?
They are attractive on the car, but so are the lights on the LS460 ...
For me, it's mainly for the looks, I think the front of the LS looks better with the LED's, but I am not sure I'd spend $5,000+ for the upgrade, that's a bit much . . .
correct, i would get it (if i have the money) for the look as well, it lights up the same as hid, which is good.
the headlights are not plug and play, you need to get conversion harnesses. japan has it but seems like they are bundling everything. and you cannot (should not) get the japanese setup coz' the headlights are different (RHD in japan)
the msrp for the headlights are like 5k each. it's up to your personal contact to get something cheaper
if yes can we get it through the dealer? what about the rear lights?
Some technical website in Japan did the test, and the LED headlight actually produce much less light than the Xenon/HID one (2000 lumen (400/each x 5) on LED vs 3200 lumens on HID). The LED is marginally better than the halogen one.
I think the best headlight is the xenon/HID on the 03-06 LS430: wide & even lid & bright light. I once saw an LS430 next to the LS460 at night, and the light output from the 430 overwhelm the 460. The technical spec seem to agree with this: the LS430 uses D2S bulb, while the LS460 uses D4S bulb, which is mercury-free (environment friendly), but not as bright as the D2S.
The LED sure look nice though, but I think most driver would rather have "better light" over the "better looking headlight"
very interesting. i agree with the d2s vs d4s. it's a matter of environment to switch to d4s without mercury, so can't really blame any of the headlight design coz' the bulb itself is the problem
about the led vs hid though, great read there. but my question is, how about the usable light on the road? i think that's more precise measurement. number wise the led seems to be about the same as halogen, however it doesn't take rocket science to see that they put more light on the road. i remember reading that while hid has great cut off, the cut off on led is still better (maybe theoretically). could it be some light output from hid are still producing glare, thus the usable light on the road are more comparable to led?
again i am not trying to defend led, but just raising some questions to consider.
What we're seeing now are the initial stages of development and application for this technology. LED lights will evolve and certainly improve over time, particularly in the artsy design use. We're already seeing this coming with Audi on the R8. Other more important uses will be in general lighting such as residential and commercial light bulbs. Their operation cost is the seducing factor as wide spread use will take a lot of pressure on power generation facilities and their dramatic impact on our reducing our carbon footprints.
