Default LS 460L NAV System

I can't program a distination once car is in motion? It doesnt say any thing in manual about this. When forward motion stopped for a while, I can...so I guess this is a safety feature?

I thought the NAV system was broken....I guess it isn't..it should be included in the thick book!

Hey, welcome to the group!

Actually its on page iii of the Nav Manual, but with 1000+ pages worth of manuals, I've already missed a dozen things!

Some people here are diligently working on a way to subvert the lock out.

Welcome to Club Lexus! Hope you are enjoying your LS 460 L!

Yes, there is a NAVI lockout while in motion, anything above 5 mph triggers the speed sensor and blocks out navigation inputs and other systems. It's a safety feature, however one that has aggravated some members here.

There is a workaround but it is very technical (involving wiring), unlike previous LS models where a navigation screen trick could override the system.

There are also voice commands you can use for the NAVI at any time. The voice commands can be used for NAVI functions, audio system, and bluetooth calling. It is also helpful, if not done already, to have 1-touch destinations and 1-touch phonebook entries, those are not disabled while in motion. You can destination input by voice too but it is rather involved.

You can save up to 5 places when the car is at rest for Quick Access which you may use if the car is at motion.

I've tried to find this information here specifically - is there a specific message that lists step-by-step what to do, and what precisely you "get" and "lose" in terms of overall functionality?

Thanks

I know this thread, and have posted there - but I couldn't possibly determine what to do based on that post, nor am I clear what is the overall functionality when the hack is applied.

I did find it in the manual the thick one on page iii, but not anywhere else! Nor in the small one that gives the quick over view...there is no trouble shooting section either...and this would be a natural for that. It should be noted in a box at the start of the NAVIGATION Section!!!

I will be fine with doing it while stopped rather than be more adventurious with a work around.

Agreed, they should make it clear about the lockout.
