Default How to eject Nav DVD on ML equipped 460???

Ok, I was going to experiment with the hybrid disc concept so Lexus was no longer my mother, but am I missing something? There's no way I can see to eject the Nav DVD - actually, based on the screens I'm seeing, the nav data appears to be installed on the HDD of the Mark Levinson system

Is there a DVD in the ML system, or is the data preloaded on the HDD and this workaround is not applicable to my car?

My wife has a 6.1 DVD in her IS 20, so I guess I could figure out how to pull that one out, but it's not clear where I would load it in my 460...

Any help here would be appreciated.

Thanks

Its loaded on the HDD. They tell you that when/if you want to update the map info you have to bring it into Lexus and they will download the latest version onto the HDD.

So I'm screwed with the hybrid disc approach here...

Damn....

The HDD's primary function (prime directive?) is to serve as storage for the Nav data. Extra space was added for music/video data. I wonder sometimes why they didn't ramp it up further to a terabyte instead of 40 gigabyte. I foresee a lot of technologies merging together in the future including a functional onboard computer.

The usual reason: cost.

well i guess terabyte is still kind of not practical to most at this point. granted i think they can have something bigger than 40g, but 1000g, that's too much for most computer use

I'm glad the HDD is small because the last think I'd want to see is a Microsoft Windows based car... Blue Screen of Death 5 times a day

"The start button was pressed, engine will start. Allow or Deny?"

"Your updated nav maps were installed. Reboot now?"

"Media player encountered a problem and needs to be ended: Ok or Cancel?"

"The Registry is corrupted, please reinstall Windows"

Well, I understand and appreciate that - my Pioneer Z1 system I installed in my Sequoia is HDD based, but I can buy an upgrade DVD to install new data from the DVD to the HDD. I wasn't aware that the upgrade process in Lexus' case required a special HW hookup.

So I'm imagining if I find, however unlikely, a tech with the nav upgrade tool and a willing personality, I could still load the hybrid disc?

It will be interesting if the rumors about Apple partnering with Mercedes for a 2009 introduction of an Apple-designed system are true. That will be stunning and relatively stable (as any Mac OS X/iPhone users here can attest to)

At least that should fix the wind noise issue...

what is a hybrid disc anyway?!

in any case, the ls460l is on a whole new nav system i believe, different from any of the other lexus at this point, including the software itself. you can't load any other nav system on this car

i dont think there is a disc...and if there was, its probably not accessible. to update the nav, you have to download it into the system, its not installed by a disc.

im imagining like a cable that plugs into the trunk...from a handheld or a laptop or something
