Default watching a DVD on the nav system

Ok, I know I'm a newbie, but I thought it would be easy to watch a DVD on the nav. system. I have the nav with the ML system it that makes any difference and a 2007 IS 350. I put a DVD in the player and figured that it would simply just start and play. I couldn't see how to get it to play. I was stopped, in park and the engine was running. What was I doing wrong? I did a search but didn't see any obvious answers to this.

Not sure what the great attraction is to be able to watch DVDs while driving. It is not only dangerous, but also iresponsible and selfish. Think about it...you are distracted, have an accident and get hurt. Consequences (other than the obvious to yourself) : Emergency response team (cost and delayed service to others), medical support (cost and delayed service to others), increased insurance premiums to others, as the number of claims by brand and model is a factor used by insurance companies to set premiums. In other words we all pay for an iresponsible, selfish and unneccessary need to be visually entertained while driving. Come on, grow up and be responsible.

I wanted to be able to watch a video while I was in the car waiting to pick a friend up from work tonight. Otherwise I'd just have to listen to music, not that it would be that bad to do so on the ML system. Anyhow I went out and tried it and of course it worked. I have no interest in watching them as I drive.

well, i use it to entertain others as well as myself at stop lights and the occasional peeks while driving. for me it hasnt been a distraction. i would suggest not watching movies for the first time while in motion tho. i usually play music videos so its the best thing ever for me! be responsible and dont let the police see u

Man, the nagging soccer moms come out of the woodwork whenever we mention the hack...

A portable or a laptop work just as well I think other than the audio which i'm sure there is some gizmo out there to make it possible to pipe it through the speakers.

The Navi option is something I would get if I had the choice again. Though watching a DVD video is a dangerous act, the DVD video playing capability is useful since you can listen to a concert while driving.
