Default DVD / NAV Hack

Has anybody tried to hack the ML DVD so you can watch it while the vehicle is in motion. Does the hack for the GS work on the IS? Also, does the NAV still use the system with the DVD in the trunk and has anybody tried to put a regular DVD in there and see if it plays while the vehicle is stopped and the parking brake engaged? I haven't received my car yet, and I'm curious to see if my passengers will be able to watch movies while taking trips.

thanks

-Y

Default Hack solution

I think the only way you can watch the DVD while driving is to be talking on the cell phone, drinking a cup of java and eating a bagle

I was told by a Lexus salesperson that the new '5th Generation' NAV system is hard-disc based, not DVD.

Also, you only get DVD replay capability in the cars equipped with the Mark Levinson system and I'm pretty sure the only way to get video is to have the car in park.

Has anyone tried to install headrest screen with the ML? I plan on doing the headrest monitors for my rear passengers, ie my 2 year old. Has it been done in the GS? Is there an output on the ML for the screen?

Maybe what he meant is that the DVD system is in-dash rather than trunk mounted?

But you're right... He definitely gave me bad info. which shouldn't surprise me given that he also had a few other things wrong.

That's actually true for the japanese IS. But I'm pretty sure export models will have DVD's only.

The Japanese version includes G-link, with a 30GB HD for loading mp3's, etc.

no need for HD in the head unit when the system can play DVD-R. Six DVD's (27 GB) of MP3 ought to play forever. Even 6 CD's of MP3 will hold quite a few songs.

BTW, to get the hack you seek, you might want to do a search on eBay after the car has been on the market for a while.

There are people there that sell little gizmos that do what you seek, but you have to install it and probably cut a wire or two.

In the new IS, the DVD NAV disc loads right underneath the clock panel.

Default Mark Levinson is the ticket required to watch....

DVD's in your IS250/350. They are in short supply however. You must have the parking brake on inorder to watch however you can listen to a DVD concert while driving. I don't advise any clipping of wires to you new IS owners.
