I can't figure out how to start from a stop light without a "jump"

it's annoying..

With that much power/torque and 8 gears it's going to take off quickly when you press the throttle. You are going to have to practice being very gentle with the pedal if you don't want the car to leap forward.

On my '03 LS430, put it in "Snow" mode and it starts off in 2nd gear.

That might help.

Its all in the foot pressure, you'll get use to it.

My service department initiated a query to Lexus concerning the jump at start from a dead stop at a light. It was only happening if the stop was more than a few seconds. The report back was that in order to increase fuel economy, the car automatically goes into neutral after the brake has been applied for a few seconds. When you remove your foot from the brake and go immediately to the throttle, you catch the car going back into gear. I noticed that if you remove the foot from the brake and wait a few seconds, the jump does not happen. I want to make it clear that the hold button was off at all times so that is not an issue here.

I don't know whether to believe them or not but I guess it is possible. If so, they need to tune up the time delay of going back into gear.

how would the transmission going into neutral while stopped increase fuel economy?? with 367 ft# of torque in the ls460, the toyota engineers should have taken notes from mb and programmed a 2nd gear start.

In neutral, there's no transmission drag on the engine, and so the car uses less gas.

It's slight, but I guess Lexus decided it was worth introducing the jump start problem.

Since it's all software, it would be nice (and easy for Lexus) if car manufactures would make things like there options that you can select.

This approach is true, the car shifts to neutral if stopped for a while in D. I think that's a neat feature for when you're in heavy traffic, because all you have to do to start moving slowly is to lift the foot off the brake pedal.

On non-heavy traffic situations it can get a little annoying but I believe Lexus will come up with a solution (software) soon and probably by the time you turn it in for 5,000mi service they might had figured it out.

So what seems to be happening is if the foot comes off the brake onto the gas, the rpms are rising before the car has even gone from neutral into gear. Yes, there's no way that would be smooth. Imagine doing that manually. Stick tranny in 'N', press on gas, and pull tranny lever down to D.

I have gotten so use to the Hold feature that this does not happen to me.

It is a smooth take off from stop no matter how much gas I give it.

Exclamation

I filed a complaint both on phone and by email about this delay on acceleration. Anybody else that has this complaint for the 460L , please do the same. My understanding is that these car manufacturers base their actions on statistics of occurrences. If you want this problem fixed, they have to hear from you.
