Hi all,I just replaced my Lexus battery with a new Interstate Class 24. Ive read that this is the correct size, but the Class 27 seems to fit the battery tray better. Would it be a better option? Or doesn’t matter? Seems to be the same CCA anyway

Also, do I need to keep the black plastic sleeve, or can I set it aside? It doesn’t seem to fit a Class 24 battery anyway.

I just bought a group size 34 battery from Sam's club.
Their system shows that either group size 24 or 34 would work.

 

If your car has the “Cold Weather Package” I think the size 27 is correct. If your mounting hardware fits the size 27 then the size 27 is the better choice because its amp-hour capacity is higher. If the mounting hardware doesn’t fit the size 27 then use the size 24.

 

My 2017 LS460 came with group 27 battery, but it has this Cold Weather Package. Either way, you can always install bigger battery as long as you have correct mounting hardware for it and proper size sleeve. You need that sleeve, it is a heat shied and protection. CCA is the indication of how much current your battery is capable to deliver when you cranking your cold engine and it is only half of the story. There is also battery capacity measured in Amp/Hours and it is the indication of how long your battery is capable of delivering that current to crank your cold engine. Larger batteries have larger cells and usually would have higher capacity with the same CCA. Larger battery will take longer to discharge and charge back to full. Sometimes it is beneficial, and sometimes not at all. It depends on your driving pattern, parking conditions and local climate.

 

My two cents, if it's not too late, go with the 27 and keep the sleeve. If it's too late, the 24 or 35 will probably be fine. Just keep an eye on it.

 

The Duracell group size 34 battery from sam's club is about 3/4 inch smaller in all three dimensions than the costco interstate group 24 battery that is being replaced.
However the Duracell has higher ratings: CA 985 vs 875; CCA 800 vs 700; and maybe better warranty (three-year free replacement).
