Hi guys
i am looking at agm batteries I’ve had this battery awhile it has been abused and on the way out.
The Varta and Bosch agm batteries I’ve looked at are about 800cca and 80h anything bigger like the normal Bosch I have now at 95ah would be too long and won’t fit.
I look at optima red top say the 34R is 800cca but the ah is only 50? What is up with that? That’s quite a huge difference maybe someone can explain this to me I assume it’s got to do with reserve power?
Also the poles of the red top are set much further in the positive cable on our cars are angled how are they going to sit ?
Also the price difference between the AGMs I’ve mentioned (about 200 USD) to be about 100 USD here in Ukraine is it worthwhile ?
I recommend doing some research on Optima. It’s. Been a few years, but their reputation was downgraded due to changes in manufacturing and quality. Maybe they’ve recovered.

I don't think they've ever been the same since the company was sold and production moved out of the US.
I went to the dealer for my battery because it died during Covid and Costco weren't getting them in for a month. It cost $156 at the dealer, and I think Costco would have been $120-ish. The dealer gave me the exact same Interstate battery that Costco sell, but with a Lexus sticker on it.
I use interstate on everything now. Most batteries suck nowadays. But interstate has great warranty if it goes dead. If you want get a real good battery then look into Antigravity Group-24 Lithium Car Battery. They are amazing, but not cheap.

Isn't it supposed to be group 27, or 27 is for the cold climate option?
The LS460s are designed to use a flooded cell SLI battery. An AGM battery has a different charging requirement. Will an AGM battery work OK in an LS460? Well sort of.
The amp-hour capacity of a flooded cell battery is determined mostly by the physical size of the battery. Most LS460s use a size 24 battery that typically has an Amp-Hour capacity of 70-85 AH when the battery is new. Some of the LS460s are equipped with a cold weather package and use a size 27 battery which has a higher AH capacity.
Batteries come with several different terminal configurations. Be sure you pick the correct terminal configuration for the LS460.
Flooded cell batteries are considered to be a "candidate for replacement" when their fully charged State-of-Charge is 75% or less. This means that the battery's fully charged AH capacity is 75% of what it was when it was new. Flooded cell batteries typically reach this condition when they have been in service a little over 3 years.
When the SOC of a flooded cell battery is allowed to fall below 50% it often damages the battery and shortens its life.
Flooded cell batteries cost less than AGM batteries and their service life is nearly the same.
The best advice is to replace the battery with a new flooded cell battery soon after its 3rd birthday or when its fully charged SOC goes below 75%. If you do that you should be able to park it for extended periods and count on it reliably starting.
Looks like I’m going with Varta or Bosch for the moment 200 is ok to pay for a AGM battery, no point in optima. My old batttery is 830 cca and 95ah
i wonder if 800/80 is going to make a difference they don’t have agm at the same specs and size
alao I don’t get why the Ah on lithiums are so low and what does it affect ? https://antigravitybatteries.com/products/starter-batteries/automotive/ag-27-rs/

Agreed. I use a trickle charger when I won't be driving it for a month or more but at around 3.5 years I start testing the battery and start looking for what is on sale because the timer is about to expire.
I am not sure if they are available in your area but I put in a Group 27 Duracell, 840 cca and 70 ah with a 3 year replacement warranty from Sam's Club ($140) or Batteries Plus (about $180 but they install). I believe a "regular" battery is a better fit than the the AGM in a LS460 because of the higher charging requirement of the AGM. Also, Costco has recently switched to a 3 year prorated warranty.
I've used an AGM in mine 3 days after I bought it, no issues ever and way better than any flooded cell. Same thing on the LS430 I had since it would eat batteries but the AGM was highly resistant to it

good to know. What are the specs of your AGM, at least here they are not the same specs as flooded cell in the same size. Anything close so the size I have now is 800 cca and 80ah, as opposed to 830 and 95ah which is what I have on now.
I use the noco genius 10 charger which cost me 100 abou 1.5 years ago with a odb connector and portable power station it goes behind the driver seat and odb extension wire and that’s how I trickle charge it has worked this long but I think the battery is done I’ve extended it this long and I don’t think it can hold a charge properly anymore I rarely drive these days if at all and when I do it’s 45 mins or less and even keeping it on the charger often the small battery limits me to 12 hours at a time then I have to recharge it used to work ok but it seems to not work unless it’s constantly being charged which is a sign it’s on the way out I’ll be buying
BOSCH AGM (S5A 110) (L4) 80Ah 800A R+
whuch will be 196 USD. I hear AGMs and more resistant to being discharged and recharged so I think that’s a plus in my situation. I’ll get a bigger Powerstation to trickle charge it and I’ll also get a Noco booster at some point for emergencies
Being in Ukraine the warranties are nonsense 2 years but it’s not gonna die in 2 years and it’s not like warranties in the US, no quibble doesn’t exist here 😂

I work in the Auto parts industry. Back when Optiima 1st started, their batteries were made in America. These were Excellent batteries.
I can't remember when Optima moved their manufacturing operations to Mexico, but they did. Once production began, quality took a Nose Dive and has Never recovered.
I Would Not recommend Any Optima Battery to Anyone.
So after all that looking etc the conclusion is I can’t use AGM here because all the agm here use the euro standard which means the terminals are sunk into a box like hole so there’s not much space. I don’t want to bother trying the euro version coz it will be a pain if it doesn’t work. I wanted to go with Varta EFB 164 usd but it was so old made in nov 2022. So all the round about I went with the same model I had made march this year for 140 usd. The Asia jsi standard has an almost flat top surface which allows the clamps to go on unhindered. Which is normal in the US most batteries have that but here they have the Euro version.
Such a pain, I’ll continue to use the trickle charger with the ODB and let’s see how long this one lasts.
I have used the Duracell AGM Batteries in both my 2010 LS460L and my 2006 SC 430. I am on my 2nd Duracell AGM in the SC as the original one last 6 years. My son also has the Duracell AGM in his 2005 SC430. Been very happy with them.

which model do you use? On the 460 We don’t have Duracell here but if you post model specs and what the top looks like I’ll know if a similar one will fit next time thanks
