Default Trunk Strip

I recently had some work done on the trunk lid and it seems to not be in proper alignment now. After being in the rain for a few hours I had water intrusion and water collection in the spare tire well.

Is the black plastic trunk edge strip supposed to be above or below the rubber gasket? See pics of current configuration.

Any other thoughts on how to properly align the trunk liD to eliminate leaks? Thanks.

That plastic piece supposed to be tucked under the rubber seal. Also, it is not clear on your picture but I think that metal loop that trunk lock engages on is sticking out too much. What kind of work did you do in the trunk? Did you do anything with the lid or the lock? Here's how it looks on my car.

Something is wrong with that plastic trim by the seal.

Much thanks gents - this explains why the boot releases with a loud POP and why the trunk is not seating against the seal properly! The car was rear-ended requiring the entire trunk assembly to need removed, body work done, and the trunk reinstalled.

Looking at your pictures it appears the plastic piece just lays down tight against the rubber seal, as opposed to the plastic piece being below the seal? Is that correct?

Any tips on removing that plastic strip or is it fairly straightforward when looking at it closely?

I'm still tryingto figure out how to adjust the alignment on my trunk.

The right side rides higher with a wider gap than the left side. The latch seems to sit low.

Any thoughts?

You likely need to adjust the right hinge.

I couldn't find any information in the manufacture repair manual. There is information how to adjust the trunk horizontally and the lock but not vertically (trunk). Before messing with any adjustments, make sure that the seal is seated properly. If that does not help, you can start with removing the trunk lining and checking for adjustment bolts/nuts.
