Default LS 460 2012 Trunk Latch

I know this problem is widespread has been discussed in many threads here and I have ordered up a new trunk latch mechanism…it’s not OEM but guaranteed. I noticed a new problem though. Up until today the latch mechanism was trying to latch but popping open again after a few seconds. I tried all the standard remedies, taking the battery negative terminal off and then putting it back but to no avail. Finally I noticed that the battery had run down…probably because the truck light stayed on. However after putting the battery on charge I notice the trunk light did not come back on and the trunk latch does not try to lock and then unlock …nothing at all, like its not getting any power! This worries me….would it be the fuse? Will the installation of a new trunk latch mechanism work? Any advice would be appreciated …thanks.

Basic trouble shooting. When the voltage drops, the amps go up to operate the device. This can blow the fuse. So, yes, check the fuse.

we’ll I checked the fuses and they seem to be ok. I have a new latch mechanism arriving tomorrow but it seems there is no power to the trunk? The trunk light is not on…maybe bulb burnt out but its not even trying to latch right now?

A voltmeter can determine if there is voltage at the light bulb. I don't know what triggers the trunk light to come on. Years ago, it was a plunger switch. They can and do go bad.

I will check but the other trunk light, the one on the trunk lid is also not working….I suspect that there is no power to the trunk…I will check…yes voltmeter is in order. More later…Honestly, these trunk latches on Lexus sedans are a constant source of problems ……the dealer cost for repair is just outrageous. Shame really cos Toyota are probably the best car maker. BTW the fuse that feeds the power trunk opener et al is fine.

It's quite possible that there's a computer module for the trunk latch and it includes lights and more. It's possible that when it detects an issue, the systems get shut down. If you have an obd2 code reader, run a scan. It may take a sophisticated unit for a subsystem to show up.

After researching I don’t think the trunk latch has an ECU module controlling its function. Looking at the codes there does not seem to be any that indicate a trunk mechanism or a fault in the trunk latching mechanism. All the locking , doors etc are fine and working. New latching mechanism arriving on Friday. That fitted ……..hopefully will solve the problem. Post results at the weekend.

I’m concerned about no voltage. Best of luck.
