Just wondered if this is a known thing? On a couple of occasions, my infotainment system has crashed and rebooted for no obvious reason, however the other day it did appear to coincide with my changing CD track via the steering wheel control. The car was not cold and everything was at normal temperature.

I've heard that 2004 was the first year that they used lead-free solder in the ECUs (but would that have extended to the ML system? And did ML also build the navigation system?)

Perhaps my biggest fear is that there's a PCB-mounted memory battery in there somewhere - which I don't particularly relish having to dig out!

Any thoughts?

(By the way, the main battery is good and the instrument cluster was unaffected.)

 

Hi Rich,

The Nav was made by Fujitsu-Ten for Toyota and it could well have been made with lead-free solder.
The settings are retained in the Nav/Audio system using flash memory, so no power is needed to retain information so no battery in there.
I would check that the fuses for the system are all firmly seated and do not move.
Also check that there is no water in the boot where the Nav unit is located. ( )

I would also add - it may be linked to a surge from the amp? Check your amp also. Do you have any static or distorted sound from the speakers?
